Chapter 23 You Want a Divorce?
Just as Aurelia was approaching Brookhill Residence, her phone rang with an unknown number. She picked it up.
“Hello.”
“It’s me,” Lydia’s sharp voice cut through the phone line.
Aurelia frowned—she’d never liked Lydia.
Her voice was grating, always carrying that sarcastic, condescending tone. Especially now, with that superior attitude.
She lowered her eyes, her tone cold. “What do you want?”
Lydia snapped, “You blocked me?”
Aurelia replied flatly, “Yeah. So?”

Her voice lacked the patience it once had. Or rather, for the past six months, she hadn’t bothered being patient with anyone from the Hawthorne family.
Back when she loved Dominic, she’d endure whatever
grievances the Hawthornes put her through or simply ignore
them.

uncomfortable got the same treatment back.
Lydia snorted coldly. “Look at you, acting all high and mighty, If you leave the Hawthorne family, what are you?”
Blunt, dismissive.
Before, although Lydia disliked her, she’d never been this openly harsh. Today’s directness was clearly because of
Lauren.
Aurelia returned the cold laugh with a hint of mockery. “If you leave the Hawthorne family, what are you then?”
The exact same words, thrown right back at her.
“You! How could I possibly leave the Hawthorne family? I AM the Hawthorne! And you’re nothing!”
Aurelia shrugged. “Nothing it is then. I don’t care.”
Lydia fell silent.
Faced with this almost provocative response, Lydia’s breathing quickened. “You don’t care? Then why did you desperately marry into our family?”
Aurelia’s voice was razor–sharp. “Stop right there. I didn’t
desperately marry in–your precious brother begged me to. On hist his knees.”

Lydia sputtered, “You… you!”
God! She wanted to tear Aurelia’s mouth apart!
Lydia was about to explode with rage.
“So you finally show your true colors! But look at the timing!”
Aurelia snorted lightly. “When exactly should I show them? Do I need to pick a special day?”
Lydia shrieked, “You!”
She was nothing but a free servant in the Hawthorne family, and now she was getting completely out of line!
Lydia was so angry, she felt dizzy. “You’re absolutely unbelievable! Don’t you want to stay in the Hawthorne family anymore?”
Aurelia replied coolly, “Actually, no. How about you help me convince Dominic to sign the divorce papers?”
Everyone kept asking if she didn’t want to stay anymore.
Who the hell would want to put up with that kind of treatment in the Hawthorne family?
Lydia gasped, shocked. “You want a divorce?” 377

Aurelia shot back, “Are you blind? Didn’t you see the divorce papers already got sent out?”
Lydia was caught off guard.
This bitch! She actually dares to file for divorce? Who does she think she is?
“Are you nuts? If anyone’s filing for divorce, it should be Dominic. What gives you the right?”
Aurelia said casually, “Then tell him to file. I’m ready to sign whenever.”
Lydia was stunned into silence.
How dare she?!
Before Lydia could say another word, Aurelia hung up.
Hearing the dial tone, Lydia stomped her feet in fury.
Leaving us, she’d have nothing at all, and she actually dared to file for divorce? So ridiculous!
Lydia stormed straight into the company, furious, and made a beeline for Dominic’s office.

Jason was just reporting the latest updates–the people they’d sent to tail Aurelia had lost her.
Dominic’s expression had darkened at the news when Lydia burst in, her anger practically radiating off her.
Without waiting for an invitation, she plopped down across from him.
“Dominic, you have to dump that woman, Aurelia! Look what she did to Lauren!” Lydia’s voice was heated. “She even said she’s already had divorce papers sent over? If they really came, you should sign them immediately!
“Who does she think she is? There are plenty of women better than her in this world. Does she really think you don’t dare divorce her?”
Burning with rage, Lydia rattled off a long tirade without giving anyone else a chance to speak.
She remembered when Dominic was still unmarried–how many socialites like Lauren had wanted to marry into the Hawthorne family.
Who could have imagined that Dominic would end up choosing Aurelia, a woman with nothing, and that he’d been the one pursuing her?

Lydia had always looked down on Aurelia.
Whenever Dominic gave Aurelia gifts, she’d keep a close eye on them, often getting Eleanor to intervene and take them back, putting them under her own name instead.
She’d never let Aurelia benefit from the Hawthorne family in the slightest.
Hearing the words “divorce papers,” Dominic’s icy gaze swept toward Lydia.
“You called her?”
His voice was deadly cold, clearly suppressing his anger.
But Lydia, caught up in her rage, didn’t notice.
She continued irritably, “Of course I called! She said she wants to divorce you and wants you to sign the papers. She actually dares to file for divorce? I’d like to see where she can go after the divorce!”
A woman with nothing–at her age, could she really go back to an orphanage after divorce?
How ridiculous…
If they didn’t crush her arrogant attitude now, she’d probably 6/7
start walking all over everyone.

Dominic’s gaze hardened, his jaw tightening. “What did you say to her?”
Lydia stammered, taken aback by the coldness in his tone. “I just asked her if she…”
Wait. Why does Dominic’s tone sound so cold? Is he… angry?
