Chapter 249 Kill Her
Eleanor and Lydia both knew something serious was going down with Hawthorne Group.
Otherwise, Dominic would’ve been home by now, especially knowing Aurelia was here causing trouble.
Eleanor thought about how Dominic wouldn’t answer her calls, and that made her even angrier.
One of the servants, clearly following Gareth’s orders, walked
over and set two towels and a bucket down in front of Eleanor and Lydia.
Eleanor stared at the cleaning supplies, and her jaw clenched. They’d never done this kind of work in their lives.
Servants had always handled everything, so what the hell was Aurelia trying to pull? Making them scrub floors like common
maids?
Aurelia really knew how to humiliate people.
Eleanor and Lydia had always been at the top of the social ladder, and they’d never lowered themselves to do manual labor like this.
Lydia caved first and grabbed the towel, her shoulder
slumping in defeat

Eleanor wanted to fight back, but Dominic’s phone just kept going to voicemail, and she was running out of options.
She started calling her friends from the socialite circle, the women she used to have lunch with and gossip with about everyone else in New York.
But either they didn’t answer, or the second she mentioned needing help, they hung up on her.
Eleanor kicked the bucket so hard it skidded across the floor, and she snapped, “What, they all think the Hawthorne family is done for?”
“Those bitches used to kiss my ass and beg for invitations to my parties, and now they think they can ignore me?”
Lydia didn’t say anything and just kept her head down.
Eleanor wasn’t finished and kept ranting, “Hawthorne Group hasn’t collapsed yet, and just because of Aurelia, they’re already laughing at me behind my back?”
She was about to lose her mind.
Hawthorne Group was the most powerful company in New York, and the Hawthorne family was old money, the kind of family people respected and feared.

Those women used to fawn over her, watching her every move and trying to stay on her good side.
And now they were treating her like she was nobody? How dare they?
Lydia sighed and said, “Mom, what’s the point of making a scene now? You shouldn’t have called those women in the first place. You just gave them something to gossip about.”
Eleanor had called those society wives, but Lydia had already reached out to her own friends earlier, and not a single one of them had her back.
Lydia had seen through these so-called friendships way before Eleanor did, and she’d already worked through her anger about it.
Eleanor snapped, “Well, what else am I supposed to do? Roll over and let that woman walk all over me? Who does she think
she is?”
“Mom-” Lydia cut her off before Eleanor could launch into
another tirade.
Aurelia was making a big show of refusing the divorce and claiming she wanted to be a good wife to Dominic, but they both knew exactly how vicious she really was.

even a little.
Eleanor fell silent, her jaw tight.
Lydia said, “Why are you still trying to curse her out? Did you forget that she’s now a-” She stopped herself mid-sentence and swallowed the insult before it could escape.
They used to do whatever they wanted to Aurelia, but now they were terrified of her.
She was too ruthless.
Ever since Aurelia hooked up with Grant, she’d changed entirely and was trampling all over them.
“Look, if we keep fighting her head-on, we’re the ones who’ll end up hurt,” Lydia said, frustration clear in her voice.
They were entirely out of options now.
Eleanor clutched her chest as anger tore through her.
Lydia turned and picked up the bucket Eleanor had kicked over, then grabbed a towel and held it out to her.
“What are you doing? You really expect me to-” Eleanor started.

What the hell was this supposed to be?
Lydia grabbed another towel for herself, and when she saw Eleanor wasn’t budging, she tried again. “What else can we do? We can’t just starve to death under her thumb.”
Aurelia was hell-bent on making their lives miserable now.
They couldn’t leave New York, and every cent they could spend in the entire city had been completely cut off.
Forget a loaf of bread-they couldn’t even buy a bottle of water.
And since they’d never been in the habit of keeping cash on hand, they’d walked right into Aurelia’s trap this time.
Eleanor still wanted to fight back. “Tomorrow, take my jewelry and sell it. Get some cash.”
Even if she was starving to death, she refused to completely bow down to Aurelia’s schemes.
“You’re forgetting-she won’t let us use the cars now. How are we supposed to get anywhere to sell anything?” Lydia pointed
out.
Eleanor bit her tongue.
When she heard what Lydia just said, her anger flared even 5/7

hotter, and she felt like her chest was going to explode.
She kept cursing Aurelia in her head. That bitch should be dead. Why couldn’t she just die already? If she were gone, everyone would finally have some peace.
Right now, Eleanor wanted nothing more than for Aurelia to drop dead.
“Do we still have those pesticides from the greenhouse? The ones we used to use for killing snakes and bugs?” Eleanor asked.
Lydia stared at her in shock and said, “What are you planning now?”
“I’m going to kill her,” Eleanor said flatly.
Lydia’s eyes went wide, and she hissed, “Are you out of your mind? If they find out, you’ll be-”
She glanced around as she spoke, checking to make sure none of Aurelia’s people were nearby.
Even though the coast seemed clear, she still lowered her voice and said, “You’ll go to prison if you do this.”
Besides, the kitchen was full of Aurelia’s people now, so there was no way they could pull off something like that anyway, 6/7

Eleanor shot back, “I don’t care if I go to prison. I’m not going to let her humiliate me like this.”
At this point, Eleanor had completely snapped.
She refused to back down.
Back down? To Aurelia? What the hell was she anyway? The Hawthorne family never even wanted her in the first place, and now she had the nerve to act like she was better than everyone else. Who did she think she was?
Lydia just stared at her, speechless.
