Chapter 254 Evil
No, that wasn’t right. Eleanor had gone to the greenhouse late last night, and there was no way Aurelia could’ve known about that.
Everyone on her staff had already gone to bed by then.
The only person still awake was the guard stationed outside her door.
Eleanor’s guilt hit her like a freight train, but she forced herself to stay calm. “No need for that. I don’t deserve to eat with you anymore,” she said, and turned to leave.
The speed at which she moved was basically a full-on retreat.
Aurelia watched her go, and the smile on her face only grew wider. “Gareth,” she called out.
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Go get Lydia, Dominic, and Lauren down here for breakfast,” Aurelia said.
Eleanor froze.
Her breath caught in her throat, and panic seized her chest.

smoothly. “After all, the Hawthornes have always presented a united front to the world.”
The words “stay together” and “united front” coming out of Aurelia’s mouth right now? The irony was almost unbearable.
Eleanor’s face went completely white. She turned back around and looked at Aurelia, her voice tight and strained. “No. They don’t need to come down,” she said.
“Why not?” Aurelia asked.
Eleanor said nothing.
“Looking at you right now, I’m starting to wonder if there’s something wrong with this meal,” Aurelia said, her tone dangerously light.
Eleanor’s guilt was eating her alive.
Gareth had already sent someone to call Lydia, Lauren, and
Dominic downstairs.
Eleanor’s hands trembled as the panic set in. “There’s nothing wrong, really. I just thought since they stayed up so late last night, they could sleep in a bit longer. It’s fine if they skip breakfast, totally fine.” The more she talked, the worse her guilt became.
Aurelia smiled. “How is that fine? You guys haven’t had a

proper meal in two days. How can that be okay?”
Eleanor froze. She knew? She knew they hadn’t been eating properly?
Eleanor’s breathing quickened.
She glanced at Aurelia’s untouched breakfast, and her stomach dropped. Aurelia knew. She definitely knew.
The realization hit Eleanor like a freight train, and her legs nearly gave out beneath her.
Within minutes, Lydia, Dominic, and Lauren came downstairs.
The moment Lydia and Lauren saw the spread of breakfast on the table, their eyes lit up.
They stared at Aurelia in disbelief.
Had she actually changed her mind? She’d ordered a proper breakfast this morning? So she’d finally come to her senses, had she?
The Hawthorne family was too powerful to mess with, after all.
If things got too ugly, and if Grant stopped backing her up, she’d have no way out from under their control, would she?

in Lydia and Lauren’s eyes.
So she finally realized that Grant wasn’t the reliable supporter she thought he was?
Well, at least she figured it out now. Better late than never.
Unlike Lydia and Lauren, Dominic’s brow furrowed as he watched Aurelia.
After what happened last night, he didn’t buy for a second that she genuinely wanted them to have breakfast together.
His expression stayed dark the entire time.
Aurelia’s sudden change in behavior put him on edge, and his instincts screamed that this wasn’t good news.
“Come on, dig in before it gets cold,” Aurelia said when she noticed the three of them standing there frozen.
She smiled warmly and gestured for them to sit down and eat.
Lydia and Lauren saw how sincere Aurelia seemed, and they couldn’t help but wonder if something had gone wrong
between her and Grant.
Why else would she suddenly change her tune like this?

Aurelia, then huffed, “I told you before-you should always leave people some dignity.”
Lauren took a seat next to Lydia and glanced at Aurelia.
Lydia continued, “But since you’re being so nice now, don’t worry. If Grant stops helping you, we definitely won’t treat you the way you treated us.”
No, they’d make sure to pay her back double.
Lauren looked at Aurelia, then at Dominic, before putting on a fake smile and saying, “I’m so glad you’re willing to work things out with Dominic and make this marriage work.”
“Just eat,” Aurelia said flatly.
Looking at Lydia and Lauren’s smug faces made her sick to her stomach.
She didn’t want to look at them for another second.
Eleanor’s heart was hammering in her throat, and she could barely breathe.
Dominic sat down next to Aurelia, and Aurelia picked up the bowl of soup in front of her with a considerate smile, then scooped up a spoonful.

Eleanor had been about to say something.

But when she saw Aurelia lifting the bowl, she swallowed her words back down and stayed silent.
She could barely contain her anticipation. Even just one sip of that herbicide would make Aurelia wish she were dead.
