Sebastian sat on the leather sofa, glancing at the suitcase she had left on the rug. "Why did you come here?"
"For the herb base inspection," Raelynn said, her jaw tight.
He lifted his gaze, a faint smirk playing on his lips. "If it's for work, how exactly did I trick you?"
"..."
Raelynn was left speechless.
Although she and Sebastian rarely fought, she had always known that his sharp tongue was impossible to beat. When he wanted to be, he was incredibly infuriating.
She honestly didn't understand why Sebastian was so hell-bent on forcing her to spend the holidays here with the Croix family.
Was their relationship really so loving that they were inseparable?
Putting on this kind of act was entirely unnecessary.
"So where are you sleeping tonight?" Raelynn was on her period, and the cramps drained her energy to argue. She couldn't help but ask.
Sebastian looked down to reply to a message on his phone. As he stared at the screen, a faint smile hovered on his lips.
Then, he looked back at her, looking completely relaxed. "Where do you think I should be?"
He asked it casually.
With a hint of mockery.
Raelynn obviously noticed the good mood his phone conversation had put him in.
She felt her polite facade fracturing.
Unfortunately.
The other members of the Croix family were probably already here.
She had also promised Matilda to keep their impending divorce a secret.
She was cornered no matter what.
"Suit yourself." Raelynn didn't have the energy to fight him. It was obvious that Sebastian sponsoring this business trip was his way of trapping her.
Everyone was thrilled to work overtime during the holidays for a massive bonus.
Naturally, she had to follow the team and show up.
Once she was in the Croix family's territory, she couldn't just do as she pleased.
She dragged her suitcase into one of the bedrooms.
She took out her pajamas and went to shower.
It was late, and there was a team meeting tomorrow. She needed to sleep.
With her hair half-dry, Raelynn was so exhausted her vision was blurring. She collapsed onto the bed, wrapped herself tightly in the blanket, curled up around her aching stomach, and fell asleep.
In her hazy state.
She felt the mattress sink slightly.
Thinking it was a dream, she rolled over and kept sleeping.
The next day.
