They had already bought their wedding rings. The wife he would bring next time was obviously Seraphina.
She walked silently ahead of them.
As she stepped into The Pike & Perch, her foot slipped on a wet patch on the stairs left by the recent rain.
Sebastian was right behind her. He raised his hand and gripped her forearm, steadying her.
Along with the warmth of his palm.
Raelynn felt a fleeting, almost imperceptible chill against her skin.
She didn't have time to look closely.
Turning her head, she met his deep, fathomless eyes and offered a polite, "Thank you."
Sebastian waited until she was steady before slowly releasing her arm. "Mm."
In that brief moment.
Raelynn noticed the glittering ring on Sebastian's finger.
Under the overhead lights, the minimalist, unadorned band was strikingly obvious.
He was wearing a ring.
But the moment she glanced at it, Sebastian slipped his hand into his pocket, the cold silver gleam vanishing from sight.
He continued chatting with Old Mr. Flynn, brushing past Raelynn.
Raelynn thought back to Seraphina's social feed a few days ago, where she mentioned buying a diamond ring. Was the one Sebastian wore the matching band?
She raised her own hand.
She glanced at the faint mark left by her own wedding ring, which had been fading ever since she took it off.
Though it had faded significantly, she had worn it for seven years. The indent wouldn't disappear so easily.
But the truth was...
During their entire marriage, Sebastian had never worn his wedding ring.
Yet now, he had put one on for another woman.
Raelynn lowered her hand and continued walking inside. Aside from a pang of nostalgia for the past, she felt absolutely nothing else.
Old Mr. Flynn was a man who loved life, and he had opened The Pike & Perch mostly to entertain guests and friends.
A single word from Sebastian was all it took for her to surrender and throw her so-called dignity out the window.
With that thought.
He didn't hide his mockery, smiling as he said, "Raelynn, since you're only here because of Sebastian, I guess I can't take credit for inviting you. So there's no need for me to thank you, either."
Since Raelynn had shamelessly tagged along on her own, he certainly wasn't going to pretend she was doing him a favor by visiting his grandfather.
Raelynn furrowed her brow slightly.
Just then, Old Mr. Flynn returned. Seeing Leo smiling and chatting with Raelynn, he assumed they were getting along splendidly.
He felt a wave of relief.
He then personally brought over a bowl of nourishing sweet soup for Raelynn.
"Here you go, Raelynn. Have something warm since it's raining. I had the kitchen start this the moment you called."
Leo, however, sensed something was off.
His grandfather was a notoriously difficult man to please, so why did he seem so incredibly close to Raelynn?
