"A celebrity doctor. You're truly one of a kind, Ms. Vance."
The relentless wave of flattery made it feel like Seraphina's personal fan convention.
But Raelynn knew the truth: they weren't sucking up to Seraphina.
They were bowing to Sebastian, her powerful protector.
"I heard you were deeply involved in the drug development project between NexusMind and Kingsford University," someone noted.
Seraphina shot a fleeting glance at Raelynn. "Yes, I handled a massive portion of it. Around eighty percent, I'd say."
"Then why did you step down at the last minute? The credit for a project of this magnitude is incredibly prestigious."
Seraphina paused, pressing her lips together before answering, "I had personal plans. I have other R&D projects right now and simply couldn't be in two places at once. To me, empty titles and credits aren't what matters. All I care about is ensuring patients get the best possible medication."
Instantly, the surrounding crowd stared at her with deep reverence.
Showering her with endless praise.
Sebastian remained silent through the exchange, but his expression was noticeably relaxed.
When Raelynn glanced his way, he happened to turn in her direction, a faint trace of a satisfied smile lingering on his lips.
She understood it immediately: no man was immune to the ego boost of having a beautiful, widely worshipped partner.
Sometimes, Raelynn had to admit she was impressed. It was no wonder Seraphina thrived on television—her ability to spin her own PR was masterful.
First, she claimed all the glory. Then, she pretended to be above the fame.
She was practically a modern-day saint.
"It's always the people who have nothing that fight the hardest. Hoarding a front-row seat like a stubborn mule doesn't change a thing. They're lightyears behind Ms. Vance's level of class."
Raelynn felt the judgmental glares shifting to her.
The thinly veiled insult was unmistakable.
Dr. Hayes wasn't a tall woman, but she was impeccably maintained, with barely a trace of gray in her hair. Her strides were vigorous and commanding. "If you really cared about me, you'd properly manage your company instead of slacking off every day. If The Yves Family relied on you, we'd be bankrupt in a few years."
Julian was rendered speechless. His grandmother's tongue was lethal.
He hurried to catch up with her. "Other grandmothers worry about marriages and great-grandchildren! You just nag me to be a corporate titan. Why don't you obsess over my love life for a change?"
"Your love life is your own problem. Why would a woman my age waste her time worrying about that? I'm not that bored," the matriarch retorted bluntly.
She had an empire to run; she wasn't about to waste energy on useless domestic drivel.
"..."
As they walked, Julian caught a glimpse of Raelynn sitting in the hall.
He hesitated, his steps faltering.
Dr. Hayes followed his line of sight, her gaze landing squarely on Raelynn's profile.
