Moreover, these were exclusive, targeted invitations.
This meant Julian had specifically reserved a spot for Raelynn.
That made her incredibly unhappy.
After all, Julian and Leo Flynn were Sebastian's best friends. They were supposed to stand firmly by her side against any outsiders.
She did not want that dynamic to change.
They were supposed to favor her forever.
Unaware of her shifting expression, Julian twirled a pen in his hand. "NexusMind's new cardiovascular drug is generating massive buzz. It's award-winning material, and Raelynn is the lead author. It wouldn't make sense if she didn't show up."
He kept his own personal motivations to himself.
The moment he mentioned the drug.
Seraphina's face stiffened.
She knew exactly how monumental that new drug development was. Creating new pharmaceuticals was notoriously difficult; once successful, the glory was immense.
Yet Raelynn had somehow ridden her coattails and snatched up all the prestige...
But right now.
She carefully observed Julian's expression.
He said it was just business.
But she couldn't shake the feeling that his attitude toward Raelynn had changed.
It was different from before.
There was more attention, more patience, and it made her inexplicably uncomfortable.
"Julian, there's something I need to tell you." She hesitated, as if carefully weighing her words.
He looked up. "What is it?"
A dark gleam flashed in her eyes.
-
Failing to secure a deal with Longstride wasn't a total loss.
Raelynn didn't feel particularly regretful.
After all, the project wouldn't collapse just because of a few missing experts.
Returning to NexusMind.
She had barely stepped into the Pharmacology Analysis Lab.
Her phone rang.
She glanced at the screen—it was Professor Alistair Finch.
Thinking it might be about Lily, she picked up. "Professor?"
Professor Finch was in the middle of a card game. Between a fierce shout of "Bam!" he asked casually, "Has Kingsford University contacted you yet?"
Raelynn laughed. "Why would they contact me?"
The older man huffed. "I wrote them a letter of recommendation. Your new cardiovascular drug development has caught the eye of the national project committee. Minimal side effects, an eight percent increase in efficacy, and prices kept affordable for the general public. How is that not a monumental achievement?"
Raelynn was confused. "So what? What's the letter for? I'm not going back to school."
"Who asked you to go back to school?" He snorted again. "You're being offered an exceptional promotion to Associate Professor."
Raelynn was speechless.
She thought she had misheard.
"Me? Are you serious? I'm just a rookie!"
