Chapter 173

“I’m actually the only one giving you one.”

The silence that followed was heavy-because everyone in the room understood the truth behind his words.

The Knowles family no longer had leverage. And Ashton Pierce knew it.

“Or,” Ashton added calmly, giving a small, indifferent shrug, “you may choose to spend tonight in prison-together with your parents.”

His gaze settled on Mirriam, steady and unfeeling.

“The choice is entirely yours.”

The words fell like a final verdict.

“Why, you-!” Rima abruptly rose from her seat, her chair scraping sharply against the floor. Her hands trembled as fury overtook her composure.

“I can’t believe you’ve become this cruel, Ashton!” Her eyes burned as she glared at him.

“We opened our home to you. We treated you like family-like a son! And this is how you repay us?”

Ashton didn’t flinch.

“I’m simply stating a fact, Madame Knowles,” he replied evenly.

Then his lips curved into a faint, humorless smile.

“And as for welcoming me into your home… let’s not be confused.” He leaned back slightly, his gaze turning sharp.

“You accepted me because I was valuable…useful.”

Silence spread across the room.

“In Bay City, any family would have done the same—especially if it meant being associated with the Pierce name.” His voice dropped, calm but cutting.

“That arrangement was never about affection. Or family.”

A brief pause.

“It was political.” His eyes moved across the three of them.

“So let’s not pretend there was any filial bond between us.”

A quiet snicker escaped him, the corner of his lips lifting in a cold, sarcastic smirk.

“Let’s not be hypocrites.”

Rima stared at him, her mouth slightly open-but no words came.

For the first time, she had nothing to argue.

Beside her, Mirriam and Red remained silent as well, their expressions stiff, the weight of his blunt truth pressing down on the

room.

Because deep down-they all knew he wasn’t entirely wrong.

“Is there anything else I can assist you with?” Ashton asked calmly. Then, after a brief pause, he added with effortless politeness, “If not, I still have other matters that require my attention.”

The dismissal was graceful. And cutting.

Rima, Red, and Mirriam looked at him at the same time, their expressions a mixture of anger, humiliation, and restrained fury. Ashton remained unbothered, meeting their gazes one by one with quiet composure

Silence stretched between them/heavy and suffocating.

“We’ll find our own way, CEO Pierce,” Mirriam finally said. Her voice was cold.

She turned without waiting for a response and walked toward the door. Her parents followed closely behind, their steps stiff, their backs straight with the last fragments of their pride.

The door closed behind them with a muted click. And the Knowles family walked out of his office with nothing left.

For a long moment, Ashton remained motionless. Then his attention shifted to the four folders neatly arranged on his desk.

“I never thought it would be this easy,” he murmured, a quiet chuckle escaping him-low and satisfied.

His eyes lingered on the documents.

Slowly, almost deliberately, his fingers moved across them one by one, as if touching something rare. Something valuable. Something long desired.

“These are all the Knowles properties, Cassie,” he whispered softly.

“And they’re already mine.”

His fingertips traced the edges of the folders.

“They have nothing left under their name now.” A faint smile formed on his lips.

“Tomorrow, Knowles and Greene Corporation will no longer exist.”

His eyes darkened with quiet satisfaction.

“It will only be Greene Corporation.”

But the smile didn’t last. A shadow passed over his expression, his gaze turning colder.

“They still have a few million left, Cass,” he continued, his voice dropping.

“So this… is far from over.”

The warmth disappeared completely, replaced by something sharper. More dangerous.

“They’ll need that money,” he added softly.

“To hire a lawyer.” A slow smirk appeared.

“For the next step you’re about to take.”

Reaching into his pocket, Ashton pulled out a small device. He studied it for a moment, his thumb brushing its surface, before placing a call.

Not long after, a knock sounded.

“CEO Pierce,” his assistant greeted as he entered.

Ashton held out the device.

“Send this to Madame Cassidy Greene,” he instructed.

“Make sure it remains anonymous.”

“Yes, sir.”

The assistant accepted it and left immediately. Ashton’s gaze followed the door antil it closed.

Then he turned toward the glass wall. His eyes settled on a particular building in the distance. The hotel where she was staying.

A quiet smile touched his lips.

“Enjoy my gift, Cass.”

And in his eyes-anticipation flickered.
