Chapter 138

“The cut isn’t deep, Madame There’s no need for stitches. We’ve cleaned and dressed the wound properly, and it should heal without leaving a scar.”

The doctor spoke reassuringly to Zab, though his eyes flicked nervously toward the elderly woman seated in the wheelchair nearby.

“Dr. Demetri,” the elderly woman interrupted, her tone firm and authoritative, “are you absolutely certain there is no internal injury to the boy’s head? Have all necessary tests been completed?”

The senior physician, who had personally received them when the ambulance arrived, straightened at once.

“Yes, Madame Chairman,” he replied respectfully.

“We conducted a scan immediately. The results are normal. There is no sign of internal bleeding or trauma. The child may experience some discomfort around the wound and mild soreness in the areas where he landed, but there is nothing serious to worry about.”

The elderly woman held his gaze for a moment, as if weighing every word.

“I want him under continued observation,” she said at last.

“Assign the best pediatrician to his case.”

“Of course, Madame Chairman,” Dr. Demetri responded without hesitation.

“Dr. Aragon is our specialized pediatric surgeon. Her team is the best at Bay City Medical Center. They will personally oversee the boy’s care.”

“Good.” The woman’s expression softened as she turned her attention to the small patient.

“I want the best for Kai.”

Kai, now seated upright on the hospital bed with a small bandage secured along his hairline, straightened politely despite the slight stiffness in his movements.

“I’m feeling better now, Madame,” he said earnestly.

“Thank you very much for taking good care of me.” He gave a small bow from where he sat, then glanced respectfully at the doctors and nurses who had attended to him earlier.

The gesture drew warm smiles around the room.

“Such a well-mannered and adorable boy,” Dr. Demetri said, his expression brightening as he gently patted Kai’s head.

“He reminds me of the young Ash-”

“Dr. Demetri.”

The elderly woman’s voice cut through the room.

It wasn’t loud, but the warning in her tone was unmistakable.

She met the doctor’s eyes with a firm look, and the seasoned physician immediately fell silent, bowing his head slightly in acknowledgment.

If anyone sensed the brief tension, the woman showed no sign of it. Her attention returned to Kai, her expression softening once more, almost tender.

“You must rest here for a while,” she said gently, reaching out to caress his cheek again.

“Thank you for your concern, Madame,” Zab spoke up, her voice sincere though still tinged with lingering anxiety. She hadn’t let go of Kai’s hand since they arrived, her fingers wrapped around his as if afraid he might slip away again.

“If it were just me, I probably would have panicked,” she admitted with a small, grateful smile.

“We’re new here. We only came to visit his parents.”

Her eyes briefly moved between the elderly woman and the hospital staff, gratitude clear in her gaze.

“We’re truly thankful for all your help today.”

Across from them, the Madame watched Kai quietly, her eyes lingering on his face a moment longer than necessary-her

expression thoughtful, almost searching.

“His mom must be panicking by now,” Zab said with a worried sigh, her grip tightening around Kai’s hand.

“Don’t worry, Madame,” Dr. Demetri assured her gently.

“We have the best medical team in the city. There is absolutely nothing to worry about regarding the boy’s condition.”

Zab gave a faint nod, but her heart remained uneasy.

‘You don’t know Cassie,’ she thought.

Even the smallest injury would be enough to turn her daughter’s world upside down.

Before she could respond, Dr. Demetri’s phone vibrated. He glanced at the screen, then straightened.

“Madame Chairman, CEO Ashton has arrived. He’s being escorted to this room.”

The atmosphere shifted almost immediately. Moments later, a tall figure appeared at the doorway.

“Grandma, what happened?”

Ashton’s voice carried urgency as he strode inside, his eyes moving quickly over the room before stopping at the elderly woman. He went straight to her side, concern evident in the tightness of his jaw.

“I’m fine,” his grandmother said at once, reaching out to pat his arm, sensing his worry.
