Chapter 145

“Thank you for taking good care of my sot.. and of Cassie, CEO Wallace.”

Ashton’s voice was steady now, though the sincerity in it was unmistakable.

He held Zandrie’s gaze, his eyes carrying none of the authority he was known for-only gratitude. For a moment, he did not stand as the powerful Ashton Pierce, but simply as a man acknowledging another for protecting the people he loved.

Zandrie met his eyes calmly, his expression softened by quiet understanding.

Then Ashton turned his head slightly, his gaze moving to Cassie.

“And… thank you, Cass,” he said, his voice gentler this time. “For letting me into Kai’s life.”

Cassie did not answer immediately. She simply looked at him, her expression composed but no longer guarded as before.

The storm of emotions that had shaken the hospital room earlier had finally settled.

Now, the three of them sat together in a quieter corner of the private room-Zandrie and Cassie on the small sofa, with Ashton seated across from them.

Not far away, near the bed, Kai’s cheerful laughter filled the air.

The boy was happily talking to Zab and Madame Carina, almost animatedly. Carina listened with full attention, her eyes bright with tears and joy, her hand occasionally reaching out to touch his hair or hold his small fingers—as though reassuring herself that he was real.

Every now and then, Kai would look back toward his parents, flashing them a proud smile before returning to his stories.

The simple, warm scene eased the heaviness that had lingered between the three adults.

“I know… I could never hide the truth forever.”

Cassie spoke after a moment of quiet, her voice calm but earnest, her eyes fixed on Ashton.

“One day, I would have to bring Kai to you,” she continued.

“No matter what circumstances existed between us… Kai is innocent. He deserves to know who his real father is.” Her fingers tightened slightly on her lap before she added softly,

“And he deserves the chance to know you… without lies, without resentment.”

The weight of her words settled between them-not as an accusation, but as a mother’s quiet resolve.

Beside them, Zandrie leaned back slightly, his expression gentle as he looked from Ashton to Cassie.

“We never hid the truth from him,” he said in a calm, steady tone.

“Cassie and I agreed that Kai should grow up with honesty, even if the truth was complicated.”

A small, fond smile touched his lips.

“When he turned six, we told him that I wasn’t his biological father.”

He let out a soft breath, his eyes drifting briefly toward the boy across the room, who was laughing with Madame Carina.

“And as smart as he is… he understood. Easier than we expected.”

There was no bitterness in his voice-only quiet affection.

“I may not be his real father,” Zandrie added, glancing back at Ashton, “but that never changed how much he means to me.”

His words carried no claim of ownership, only the steady pride of someone who had loved and protected the child without asking for anything in return.

“I honor what you have with Kai, CEO Wallace. And I will never interfere with the bond you share with him.”

Ashton spoke with quiet sincerity, his gaze steady as it met Zandrie’s. There was no trace of pride in his tone-only deep respect.

“I will always be grateful… for everything you did for my son,” he continued. “For being there when I wasn’t.”

Zandrie gave a small nod, accepting the words without ceremony.

After a brief pause, Ashton drew a breath, as if gathering the courage for what came next.

“Now that I know about my son,” he said, turning toward Cassie, his eyes searching hers, “I want the world to know about him.”

“I want to acknowledge him openly.”

Cassie held his gaze for a long moment. She could see the resolve in his eyes, as if he was afraid to take even a step forward

without her consent.

After a moment, she nodded.

“It was bound to happen sooner or later,” she said calmly.
