Bound by the Past, Locked by the Heart novel Chapter 106

When she stepped out, she found her path blocked in the corridor.

A young woman in her early twenties, dripping in haute couture and reeking of entitlement, stood squarely in her way, looking her up and down like she was trash.

"So you're Willa?"

Willa stopped in her tracks. "Do I know you?"

"My name is irrelevant. I'm just here to do you a favor and warn you that the engagement between Randal and Scarlett isn't something a gold-digger like you gets to ruin."

Willa gave her a look usually reserved for mental patients and kept her mouth shut.

Oblivious to the insult, the girl sneered. "Parading yourself in front of this crowd with him is a direct insult to Scarlett. Do you honestly think the Sterling family is going to let you breathe after this?"

Willa waited three solid seconds to ensure the rant was over before finally speaking.

"Are you quite finished?"

She sidestepped the girl and kept walking. "If you're done, move."

The girl's face twisted in outrage. She lunged forward, grabbing a fistful of Willa's gown. "You are not walking away from me."

Willa snapped her head back, her face a mask of pure disgust. "Get your hands off me. Are you on Scarlett's payroll, or are you just naturally obnoxious?"

The girl gaped, completely derailed by the hostility.

"Next time you decide to play someone's attack dog, try using your brain first. You just watched Randal publicly eviscerate a man for breathing in my direction. When he finds out you pulled this stunt, do you really think he'll just let it slide?"

Without waiting for a response, she ripped her dress free and walked away, leaving the girl hyperventilating in the hallway.

Back in the ballroom, Randal was deep in conversation.

The second he spotted her, he brutally cut the other man off and closed the distance between them. "What took you so long?"

Willa offered a breezy smile. "Nothing. Just got cornered by someone asking for directions."

Randal's eyebrow ticked up, clearly not buying a single word.

He wrapped his large hand securely around hers. "Let's go. We're leaving."

The moment the car doors locked, Randal dropped the pleasantries. "Who backed you into a corner?"

Willa blinked, startled. "How did you know someone came after me?"
