"You actually think Randal is in love with you?" she scoffed. "He's just nursing a bruised ego. You walked out on him, and it drove him insane. Now that you've come crawling back, he's just using you to scratch the itch."
Her laughter turned malicious. "Once the novelty wears off, how long do you honestly think he'll keep you around?"
Willa's heart took a brutal hit, but she refused to let her mask slip.
"Are you done?" Willa marched to the door and yanked it open. "If you're done, get out."
Scarlett's face finally snapped.
The flawless, untouchable facade split wide open.
"Willa." Her voice dropped to a venomous hiss. "Do not test me. Do you have any idea how many millions in funding he's hemorrhaged because he's distracted by you?"
"And whose fault is that? Your family is the one pulling funding behind his back," Willa fired back, scoring a direct hit. "Scarlett, you claim he's not really in love with me. Well, what about you? Are you really in love with him?"
"The only man you ever loved was Jace, wasn't it?"
All the blood drained from Scarlett's face. "How... how do you know that?"
Willa was entirely guessing.
Iris Underwood had explicitly warned her that there was zero romantic chemistry between Scarlett and Randal.
Piecing that together with the catastrophic breakdown Randal had suffered in front of his mother, Willa had formulated a wildly dangerous theory.
Besides, based on their social hierarchy back then, Jace was the absolute crown jewel for the Sterling family's merger.
She deliberately twisted the knife. "I wonder how Jace would feel knowing you're this psychotic about marrying his baby brother."
"You know nothing!"
Scarlett's aristocratic composure violently disintegrated.
"You know nothing!" she shrieked, her voice echoing off the walls. "How dare you speak his name?"
"He was everything to me." Her voice shattered, dropping into a devastated whisper. "But he's dead."
Raw, unfiltered agony bled into her eyes, and her body began to shake. "I should despise Randal, but I..."
She forced a psychotic, broken smile that looked more like a grimace of pain.
