He noted her pale complexion and asked casually, "Are you alright?"
She forced a smile. "I'm fine. Don't worry, Mr. Sommers, I won't cause any trouble."
Corbin didn't press the issue.
The lights in the grand hall suddenly dimmed. Music swelled, and the entire room fell silent.
The ceremony was about to begin.
Willa couldn't help but look toward the stage entrance.
A spotlight hit the end of the red carpet. Randal stood there in a custom black suit, looking remarkably aristocratic, like a prince straight out of a fairy tale.
Yet his face remained devoid of joy, his gaze as cold as ice.
Beside him, Scarlett looked radiant in a pristine haute couture gown. She linked her arm through his, wearing a graceful, elegant smile as they made their entrance.
Willa stared, completely mesmerized and heartbroken.
In her younger days, she had fantasized about a scene exactly like this countless times. She just never imagined that someone else would be the leading lady.
Now, she was nothing but an accidental spectator, sitting in the audience, watching a grand performance that had absolutely nothing to do with her.
Willa's knuckles turned white as she clenched her fists. Even breathing felt like a chore.
For a split second, she deeply regretted her decision to come.
She couldn't watch this anymore.
Willa turned to Corbin. "Mr. Sommers, I'd like to leave now."
Corbin nodded in understanding. "Call me if you run into any trouble."
With that, he slipped a business card into her hand.
She clutched the card, stood up, and kept her head down as she headed for the exit.
Willa pushed open the banquet hall doors and peeked out cautiously.
The two bodyguards were still waiting in the lobby. Startled, she loosened her grip, and the heavy doors slowly swung shut again.
This clearly wasn't the best time to make a run for it, but sitting in that room felt like sitting on pins and needles. It wasn't any better than being under surveillance.
