"Why wouldn't it be?" Sophie pouted. "He's got tons of properties, and that one is just sitting empty. Plus, I just called him and he said yes. Come on, stop overthinking it."
Ten minutes later, the car pulled into a residential parking garage.
Sophie led her upstairs and swiped a keycard to unlock the door. "Here we are."
Willa stepped inside and was instantly speechless.
She had assumed it would be a modest little studio, but taking one look around, this place was at least two or three thousand square feet.
Her lips twitched. "Sophie, is this what rich people call an 'apartment'?"
"Yep. A luxury apartment."
Willa stood in the entryway, at a total loss for words.
The living room was big enough to jog in, and the floor-to-ceiling windows offered a 180-degree view that inexplicably made her feel entirely exposed.
The furniture was minimalist Italian design, and every single piece looked incredibly expensive.
Sophie pulled her inside, kicked off her heels, and walked barefoot across the hardwood floor.
"There's nothing stocked here right now, but I'll have someone bring over some daily essentials this afternoon. You just relax and stay here. That jerk Randal will never get in."
"Okay," Willa replied softly.
The two of them lay side by side on the massive sofa. Sophie turned to her. "Wills, what's your plan now? You can't hide forever."
A bitter smile touched Willa's lips. "I don't know. Maybe I'm just overthinking things. Maybe Randal won't even try to look for me. I'll just lay low for a while and wait until the dust settles on his end."
Sophie turned her head to look at her, her eyes filled with complex emotions.
"Wills, you deserve better. Like my brother, for instance. He's a great guy—a million times better than that bastard Randal."
Willa laughed at the absurdity. "Are you really trying to play matchmaker for your brother right now?"
Sophie rolled her eyes. "I'm not playing matchmaker. I just want to keep the good stuff in the family."
"Look, my brother might be a bit stoic, secretly a softie, and a little older, but his character is flawless. Most importantly, he actually gets to choose who he marries."
Willa smiled and shook her head. "Stop it."
