Randal glared at her, his voice absolute ice. "Why didn't you answer my calls?"
Willa shuddered under his stare, managing a strained smile. "Weren't your bodyguards giving you play-by-play updates on where I was?"
"I asked why you didn't answer my calls!"
The smile froze on her face. She knew exactly what he was panicking about, but she suddenly lost all desire to explain herself.
"My phone was on silent. I didn't hear it." Her tone flattened. "That's it."
Randal's brow furrowed tightly. "That's it?"
"What else is there?" Willa's own temper flared. "I went out for lunch, sat in a café for a bit, and didn't hear my phone because it was on silent. Now I'm back. Is there a problem?"
"You've never ignored my calls before," Randal said, sounding defensive and wronged.
Willa's tone softened a fraction. "Randal, I'm in a terrible mood today, and I don't want to argue about this."
She stood up, wanting to hide in her bedroom.
She was exhausted and just wanted peace.
But after taking just two steps, he snatched her wrist.
He yanked her back, forcing her to look him in the eye. "You want to leave?"
"I don't want to leave."
"Then why didn't you answer my calls!" he screamed, his voice raw with terror.
Willa's heart lurched, freezing her in place.
He reached up to cup her face. His hands were freezing cold and shaking violently.
"Wills, I was so scared. I just saw you walk away with someone else, without even looking back."
Willa stared in shock. "You're having hallucinations again?"
Randal nodded.
"Randal, you can't keep doing this. Did you take your medication today? Have you been to therapy lately?"
He stared at her blankly, his eyes utterly empty, entirely ignoring her questions.
A wave of deep dread washed over her as her gaze dropped to his wrist.
