She stopped struggling, staring blankly at the ceiling like a lifeless doll.
With her clothes half-removed, Randal finally noticed something was wrong.
Willa lay perfectly still on the bed, devoid of all life, letting him manipulate her however he pleased.
"Willa?" he called out hesitantly.
Her expression remained completely blank. "Weren't you going to take me? Just get it over with, and unchain me when you're done."
His hand froze instantly, his throat bobbing as he swallowed hard. "Willa, I just..."
She cut him off, her tone devoid of emotion. "Not going to do it? Then get off."
He pushed himself up slightly, his eyes instantly turning red. "Willa, I'm sorry. I just..."
He couldn't finish the sentence. He suddenly raised his hand and slapped himself hard across the face.
"Enough. Can you take this chain off now?" she asked.
Randal stared at her for a moment before suddenly rolling off the bed, stumbling backward.
He whipped around and staggered toward the bedroom door.
She scrambled up, calling after him. "Randal, unfasten this first!"
He acted as if he hadn't heard her, never looking back.
The front door opened and slammed shut with a heavy thud.
The entire world fell silent in an instant.
As if all the strength had been drained from her bones, she collapsed back onto the mattress.
She lay there for what felt like hours, until goosebumps prickled across her exposed skin. The dull ache of her bruises returned, spreading a stinging discomfort throughout her entire body.
She sat up, adjusting her clothes, and looked down at the silver chain fastened to her wrist.
She suddenly felt the urge to laugh. Even when locking her up, he made sure it looked elegant. The chain was beautifully crafted.
Fearing it would chafe her skin, he had even made sure the inside of the cuff was lined with soft leather.
But a pretty chain was still a chain.
She tugged at it a couple of times, realizing there was no way to open it without a key.
