Maybe it was the pregnancy hormones acting up, but for no apparent reason, her tears began to fall.
She remembered the sweet words he used to say to her. Looking back, they were probably all just empty promises meant to coax her.
How could she ever trust the things a man said in bed?
Rolling over, she buried her face in the pillow and wept even harder.
The doctor had warned her against getting overly emotional, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't calmly accept the fact that Randal was going to another woman.
The most pathetic part was that she didn't even have the right to say no.
Crying always drained her, making it incredibly easy to fall asleep.
Exhausted from the long day, exhaustion washed over her, sweeping all those chaotic thoughts from her mind. For once, she found a fleeting moment of peace.
When she woke up, it wasn't even dark yet, and Randal still hadn't returned.
She gave Sophie a call.
The phone rang twice before it connected.
"Willa?" Sophie sounded pleasantly surprised. "You're actually calling me first. Now that's rare."
Willa leaned back against the pillows, her hand resting protectively over her abdomen. Her voice was muffled. "Sophie, I need to tell you something."
Sophie instantly caught the shift in her tone. "What's wrong? What happened? Did that bastard bully you again?"
"No," Willa said, taking a deep breath. "It's just... Randal probably doesn't want this baby. I'm terrified that if he finds out, he'll force me to get rid of it."
Sophie's temper flared instantly. "He wouldn't dare! If he lays a finger on you, I'll kill him myself! The Sommers family might not be as powerful as the Yates family, but we're not to be messed with."
Sophie scoffed, utterly unapologetic. "That bitch tried to sleep her way to the top. What's wrong with giving her a little fame?"
Willa squeezed her eyes shut. She knew it. Sophie was fiercely loyal, but far too impulsive and completely lacked a filter.
"Do you have any idea that's illegal? If this traces back to you..."
"Relax," Sophie hurried to explain. "I didn't upload the video myself. The guy I hired covered his tracks perfectly. They'll never trace it back to me."
Willa still felt uneasy. "Next time you pull a stunt like this, could you at least give me a heads-up?"
"If I told you, you'd just try to stop me! You're way too soft-hearted. You know people walk all over the nice ones, right?"
Willa's tone grew firmer. "I'm just worried about you getting yourself in trouble."
"Alright, alright, I'll tell you next time," Sophie relented, her voice softening. "Don't be mad. It's bad for the baby."
