Judging by the explosive tension between the two, Randal was mere seconds away from blurting out his absurd delusions.
The thought made Willa want to dig a hole and bury herself out of sheer humiliation.
She tugged sharply at Randal's sleeve, her voice pitching up in panic. "I... I suddenly don't feel well... Since Sophie is fine, let's... let's just go. We can come back another time..."
As she spoke, she swayed slightly on her feet, feigning a bout of dizziness.
Seeing this, Corbin's brow instantly furrowed. "Willa, are you okay? Should I call a doctor?"
"N-no, it's fine..." Willa shook her head hurriedly. "Randal, let's go. I really don't feel good..."
Randal shot Corbin an icy glare, his eyes brimming with warning and unresolved hostility.
He didn't say another word, simply tightening his hold on Willa as he guided her toward the elevator.
In the cramped space of the elevator car, Randal demanded coldly, "Were you trying to bail him out just now?"
A wave of absolute exhaustion washed over her, and she let out a heavy sigh. "I just didn't want you two causing a scene in the hospital. Besides, I've told you a million times, the baby is not his."
Randal clearly didn't believe her. He leaned back against the elevator wall and closed his eyes.
After a long moment, he opened them again, wearing an expression that suggested he had somehow managed to placate his own rage. He muttered in a low voice, "Right. This baby will be a Yates. It has absolutely nothing to do with Corbin."
After returning home, Randal spent much more time at the estate. However, without his deliberate attempts to court her favor, the actual conversation between them plummeted.
Days passed in quiet stagnation, and Willa's stomach slowly began to show. Once Sophie was discharged from the hospital, she gave Willa a call.
"Willa, I'm finally out! I swear I was going to grow mold in that bed. My brother completely banned me from using my phone the whole time. I was dying of boredom."
"How are you holding up? Did that bastard... did Randal give you a hard time about the pregnancy?"
Having a child out of wedlock was hardly something to be proud of.
When she brought the idea to Randal, she was surprised by how readily he agreed, though his strict ban on contacting Sean Thorne remained in place.
Shortly after, Randal had all the visitation paperwork arranged.
The moment Arthur saw her, his eyes turned red, and his lips trembled as he repeatedly muttered, "You've lost weight again. Why do you look so pale?"
Willa sat in the visitor's chair, her pregnancy cleverly concealed by her clothing so nothing showed. She simply blamed it on being busy at work and told him not to worry.
Arthur nodded, urging her to take good care of herself on the outside. He told her not to visit if she was too busy, knowing the commute was exhausting and the procedures tedious.
Willa felt a lump in her throat, admitting she probably wouldn't have time to visit for the next six months or so.
They chatted casually about daily life. As the visiting time neared its end, Arthur suddenly mentioned that Naomi Whitman had visited him recently.
