"A letter of forgiveness?" She scoffed softly. "She almost killed me and my baby, and now you want me to write a letter of forgiveness?"
Tears slipped down Naomi's cheeks. "Willa, I know she wronged you. But she's sick. She can't control her actions."
"The judge will naturally take her condition into consideration," Willa replied coldly.
Naomi shook her head desperately, refusing to let it go. "Mr. Yates won't let her off! If nothing else works, please go beg him to give Stella a break! Warren only has this one daughter!"
Willa looked at the woman who was selfish to her very core. She felt a sudden, inexplicable stab of pity, realizing how utterly pathetic she was.
Naomi didn't actually care that Stella was going to prison; she was terrified that Warren would blame her for it, terrified that the wealthy lifestyle she had fought so hard to secure would be ripped away.
"Mom, do you even realize I almost died along with my baby?"
Naomi's sobbing hitched. "Willa, I know..."
"You don't. You don't know anything," Willa cut her off. "You only care about whether your own good days are coming to an end. Did it ever cross your mind that I am your biological daughter? That I almost lost my life because of Stella?"
Naomi cried even harder, though it was impossible to tell who she was really weeping for. It certainly wasn't for her daughter.
"Mom." Willa took a deep breath. "You should leave. I'm not writing a letter of forgiveness. If she deserves prison, then prison is exactly where she's going."
With that, she turned and walked toward the car. Sophie quickly caught up and supported her by the arm.
Corbin stood by the car, the door already pulled open.
Willa bent down and got in. The sound of Naomi's wailing calls faded into the distance as they drove away.
