[I have another interview this afternoon, so I'll be home late. Call me when Nugget wakes up. If you can't reach me, contact Corbin Sommers and tell him I'm with Julian York.]
She wasn't sure if Julian genuinely wanted to continue the interview or if he had an ulterior motive, so she had to prepare for the worst and leave herself a way out.
At two o'clock sharp, Willa stood outside Vanguard Tower.
The blinding sunlight made her squint, her fingers unconsciously tightening around her purse strap.
Inside her bag, besides her voice recorder, she had purposely packed a bottle of pepper spray just in case.
Taking a deep breath, Willa pushed the door open and walked in.
The receptionist already recognized her, smiling as she swiped her keycard and told her Mr. York was waiting in the top-floor reception room.
The door to the reception room was ajar. Julian was sitting on the couch, sipping a cup of herbal tea while looking at his phone.
Hearing her footsteps, he looked up. His gaze landed on Willa, a treacherous smile playing on his lips.
"Ms. Vance is here? Take a seat." He gestured to the opposite sofa.
Willa walked in, sat down across from him, and cut straight to the chase. "Mr. York, we didn't finish chatting yesterday. Shall we continue today?"
Julian's gaze slowly slid down from her face, stopping at her neck, his playful smile deepening.
"Ms. Vance." He set down his teacup, leaned back against the cushions, and crossed his legs, his tone laden with implication. "Did you rest well last night?"
Willa had purposefully worn a turtleneck sweater today to hide the marks from last night, but it was obvious Julian knew exactly what had happened.
A chill ran through Willa, though she maintained her composure. "I did. I drank too much last night and slept like a log."
Julian nodded, his words becoming even more direct. "That's good. It seems Mr. Yates was very satisfied with last night's arrangements."
