Bound by the Past, Locked by the Heart novel Chapter 285

But in that moment, she had to bite the bullet and fire back with dripping sarcasm. "That is a matter between me and my husband. What does it have to do with you? Do you have some weird fetish for meddling in other people's domestic affairs?"

A flash of anger instinctively surfaced in Randal's eyes, but he quickly swallowed it down. When he spoke, he was treading carefully, terrified of provoking her.

"Willa, I didn't mean it like that. I just want to warn you that Corbin isn't reliable. Why do you have to—"

"Whether he's reliable or not is my business." Willa cut him off fiercely, raising her voice.

"At the very least, when I was at my lowest and had no one else, Corbin was the one who stood by me. So, no matter what he does, I don't care."

Randal's face instantly drained of color. He pressed hoarsely, "What if he cheats on you? Or marries someone else?"

Willa sneered, ruthlessly twisting the knife into his deepest wound without a second thought.

"Randal, do you really think you have the right to ask me that?"

The moment the words left her mouth, Randal fell dead silent. Every ounce of color vanished from his cheeks, and the last bit of his forced bravado crumbled completely.

He stood frozen in place, his head bowed, lips trembling slightly. He looked as though he were trying to force a smile, but all he managed was an expression more agonizing than tears.

"Willa, don't be like this. I just want to treat you better. I'm not asking for anything else."

Seeing him looking so utterly pathetic, the fury in Willa's heart uncontrollably died down a fraction.

She knew her words had been harsh, but for Nugget's sake, she had to completely sever any lingering hope he harbored.

"Randal, we were over a long time ago. If you truly want what's best for me, then please stay far away. We have our own lives to live. Do not bother us again."
