Bound by the Past, Locked by the Heart novel Chapter 67

Zack quickly stepped forward and planted himself firmly in front of Willa, shielding her entirely from the crowd.

He smoothly wrapped an arm around her shoulders, his tone freezing over. "This is my girlfriend. I was busy with something just now, so I asked my cousin to keep an eye on her. Does anyone have a problem with that?"

The person who had been gossiping looked embarrassed, letting out two awkward laughs before shutting up and silently backing into the crowd.

Zack pulled his gaze back and turned to Willa, his eyes filled with distress.

"Are you okay? I'm sorry, my uncle asked me to see some people out, so I couldn't get here sooner."

"Zack..."

Zack shook his head, cutting her off. "Don't say anything. Let me handle this."

He turned to Randal, a polite smile fixed on his face. "Randal, thanks for taking care of Willa for me. I'll take it from here."

Randal didn't say a word. He stared at Zack's arm draped over Willa's shoulder, his eyes growing darker by the second.

Seeing this, Scarlett hurried over, forcing a strained smile. "Zack, it's good that you're here. Randal and I are going to head out now."

She tugged at Randal's sleeve and murmured, "Let's go. My dad will be here soon."

Randal kept his eyes fixed on Willa, entirely ignoring Scarlett. His gaze was burning, as if he were waiting for Willa to say something.

Willa could clearly feel the intensity of his stare, yet she kept her head down. Biting her lip, she voluntarily leaned into Zack's chest, her fingers clutching his jacket tightly.

Zack froze for a second before a gentle smile broke across his face, and he pulled her even closer.

Randal took a step back, a chilling smirk appearing on his lips as his eyes turned pitch black. "I guess I was just sticking my nose where it didn't belong."

With that, he spun around and marched off.

Scarlett was still clinging to his arm and stumbled from his sudden movement, but she scrambled to keep up with him.

"Randal, slow down."

Willa watched his retreating figure, feeling as though a piece of her heart had been brutally carved out, leaving behind a hollow, agonizing ache.
