Donovan stepped out of the car, staring at the house before him in a daze.
He drew in a deep breath to steady himself, then walked heavily toward the front door. Once inside, he swept his eyes across the living room, searching desperately for any trace of Giselle.
But after checking every corner of the spacious living room and opening the doors to the other three rooms, he found them all empty. Not a single person was there.
In a panic, he burst through another door into the backyard. He scanned every corner, but all that lay before him was a stretch of empty lawn. She was nowhere to be found.
His heart started to race, seized by the sudden fear that all of this might be nothing but an illusion. He circled the villa again, from the backyard to the front where the car was parked, but there was still no sign of her.
"What's wrong?" Ethan, who had been outside the villa, saw Donovan's anxious expression and asked in confusion. "Where's Giselle?"
"Did she have another episode?" Gideon asked.
Seeing the desperate confusion on Donovan's face, he immediately feared the worst and rushed into the house without hesitation.
When Gideon stepped inside, he found the place completely deserted. Even her dog, the one that never left her side, was nowhere to be seen.
Donovan stormed back inside and shoved Gideon in a panic. "Where is she? Don't you dare lie to me!"
"She might have gone out, maybe to the town to buy something," Gideon muttered to himself as he pulled out his phone and tried calling Giselle.
However, an automated female voice answered in Edevanian, informing him that the number was no longer in service.
"I can't reach her. She's blocked and deleted every way I had to contact her!" Gideon said, panic etched across his face as he looked at Donovan. "I don't know what's happening. We were still in touch just a few days ago. I messaged her yesterday. It went through, but she didn't reply. I didn't think much of it at the time."
Hearing that, Donovan felt as if he had plunged from heaven straight into the abyss—a chill spread from his head to his toes.
Every word out of Gideon's mouth sounded like an excuse. Rage surged through him. He seized Gideon by the collar, glaring at him with bloodshot eyes. "Are you screwing with me again? Where the hell did you hide her?"
"Don," Ethan interrupted quickly before things could spiral. "Calm down. Gideon already promised he wouldn't lie to you again. He looks just as worried as you are, so take a breath."
"Oh, right," Ethan said, turning to Gideon. "Didn't you hire a housekeeper and medical staff? Call them and find out where she went."
Gideon frantically called several foreign staff members from his contacts list.
