After kissing Giselle for a while, Donovan could no longer hold himself back. Just as he was about to deepen the kiss, Giselle slowly opened her eyes.
Feeling the heat of his breath and the softness of his lips and tongue, Giselle's body stiffened. She remained motionless for a few seconds, enduring it in silence, before she finally couldn't bear it any longer.
Turning her head away, she trembled slightly and said in agitation, "Didn't I tell you to leave? Go!"
Seeing how tense and defensive she was, Donovan didn't dare touch her the way he used to. He just stood there, staring at her in a daze.
After a long moment, his breathing grew heavy. His voice came low and unrestrained. "If you want me to walk away from you now, you might as well kill me yourself."
Right then, he felt like a drowning man who had finally found something to cling to. Letting go would be no different from giving up his own life.
Giselle froze at his desperate words.
"Don't forget, we're still legally husband and wife," he continued. "I'm the only one in this world who has both the right and the duty to protect you."
He took a deep breath. "I'll settle the score with those who took you from me later. Right now, what matters most is bringing you home."
As he spoke, he brushed his fingers through her hair. "Come back with me, darling. Stop torturing me. You've punished me for an entire year. Isn't that enough?"
Giselle felt nothing but desolation.
He no longer cared about her fragile condition. His arms locked tightly around her as he kissed her with fierce desperation, taking and devouring until she had no room to breathe or resist. All the pain and frustration he'd bottled up over the past year poured into that kiss, as if he wanted to consume her whole.
Giselle remained passive, barely resisting as her mind grew hazy and her awareness began to fade. A deep sense of helplessness washed over her, as if she were completely under his control, with no strength left to fight back.
When he finally pulled away, he cupped her face in his hands, breathing unevenly. "You ran all the way here, but wasn't it because you still love me?"
Giselle said nothing.
"This is where we first met," he murmured. "I could feel you here. You never truly meant to forget me. Otherwise, you wouldn't have given me that pull that led me straight to you."
