After Giselle took a sip of water, she offered it to Donovan.
"Have some water."
"It's fine." Although Donovan was parched, he endured the thirst to save the food and drinks for Giselle, as he had no idea what would happen next.
As a smoker, he always carried a lighter. He used it to light up a fire for warmth.
After a few hours of mental torture, Giselle finally accepted the harsh reality. They were trapped here.
She thought they could always go into survival mode if they really ended up in a desperate situation. They could fish, gather berries, and distill the seawater for consumption. With that, they wouldn't have to die of hunger or thirst.
Her health was the only concern.
She had been medicated for half a year now. If she abruptly stopped taking her medication, her condition would worsen. She might relapse more frequently, and if she had more seizures, that might affect her mental state.
Donovan understood what was on her mind. He was worried too, but he had to remain composed in this desperate situation.
"Don't fret." He tried to sound relaxed. "If we're trapped for a long time, I will gather some herbs and make a drink with them. It might help you."
In the past, he had personally developed medication for epilepsy—mostly clinical drugs with some alternative medicine. Anyway, he was no stranger to the prescription.
"Yeah." Giselle finally lowered her guard and opened up to him.
She returned a tight hug, feeling herself calming down as she listened to his heartbeat and sensing his breath. She became fearless.
Donovan started a light conversation to distract her from her anxiety. Leaning against each other, sitting in a thick pile of fallen leaves, they talked about everything from their childhood, schooling years, to their families.
They hadn't spoken this much in all their years of marriage as they did tonight. Donovan was no longer an aloof and heartless CEO, and Giselle was no longer the fiery vixen who masked her feelings.
They neither traded barbs nor schemed against each other. At this moment, they were two lovers purely savoring each other's company.
