The ceremony fell apart the instant chaos erupted, and Donovan and Giselle's exchange of vows was forced to a halt.
"What's happening? What was that sound?"
Giselle lifted her veil and looked toward the source of the noise. Several staff members were crouched on the floor examining something, and everyone nearby wore expressions of terror.
At that moment, the wedding coordinator rushed to Donovan, panic written across his face.
"Mr. Kane, there has been a major incident. Someone jumped from the upper floor. We've already called emergency services. We may have to suspend the ceremony."
Jumped from the upper floor?
Donovan felt a violent jolt in his chest.
He turned to Giselle. "Stay here. Don't move. I'll check."
The shock was so great that Giselle's mind went blank at first. As the scene devolved into confusion and guests pressed forward to take photos and videos, she couldn't help but follow.
Just a few steps away, she saw a vast pool of bright red blood spreading across the floor. The person who had jumped lay motionless on the ground.
This was the indoor atrium of a five-star hotel, six floors high. Anyone could see the victim had fallen from the top.
On her wedding day, to have something so gruesome occur—Giselle's transplanted heart pounded erratically, her face drained of all color, her hands and feet trembling. Any joy she had felt evaporated in an instant.
When the medical team examined Benjamin, they confirmed what was already clear. He was dead.
Because the case involved a suspicious death, detectives arrived immediately. Benjamin's body was transported to the coroner's office, and the entire area was sealed off.
Every remaining part of the wedding—exchanging rings, cutting the cake, pouring champagne, changing outfits, toasting guests—was canceled.
As the family representative, Ethan went onstage to offer brief words, calming the crowd and dismissing the guests.
"How could something like this happen?" Dorothea said with genuine sorrow. "I saw Benjamin not even two hours ago. He was smiling while greeting guests and helping them to their seats. He looked perfectly normal. Why would he suddenly jump?"
Grace, pale and rattled, continued grumbling nonstop. "It's terrifying. One moment he was standing there, the next he's gone, and right in front of everyone too. And at their wedding, of all places. What is this mess? The whole world is going to hear about it. Honestly, this is a disaster."
