Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 724

"Yes," Anne said, looking brimming with confidence. "This good news is the first step in building our new empire."

"What first step?" Renee asked, confused.

"Remember that trading company I registered a few years ago?" Anne explained. "The clothing business that never really took off? Well, I'm pivoting. I'm turning it into a pharmaceutical import and export business."

She did not wait for a reaction before continuing. "I recently made contact with a manufacturer in Swestan. I managed to negotiate a rock-bottom purchase price, which is far lower than any of those suppliers you used to deal with. The profit margins are massive.

"So, I went ahead and placed a 20-million-dollar order. Once the shipment arrives, I can mark it up 500% and still undercut the competition. It'll fly off the shelves!"

"Really?" Renee sounded skeptical. "Import prices from that region are usually sky-high. How did you talk them down?

"Anne, you don't know the pharmaceutical trade. Don't go rogue right out of the gate. Why don't you help me manage the domestic branches first to get some experience?"

Anne's face fell. "Mom, do you really have so little faith in me? I'm your daughter. I must have inherited some of your business instincts!

"I shouldn't have told you. I come to you with good news, and you just rain on my parade!"

Renee said, "I'm just worried about you. After everything that happened, how can I be comfortable with you dealing with foreigners again? I wish you would just stay here for the rest of your life and never leave! Medicine isn't fashion, Anne. If you end up with a batch of counterfeit drugs—"

"Mom!" Anne cut her off impatiently. "Do you think I'm a fool? I have to take this step sooner or later!

"Let me tell you something. The Anne who came back from that hellhole is not the same girl who left. Stop judging me by your old standards! You should worry about yourself!"

Dropping those harsh words, Anne stormed upstairs in a huff.

But now, Anne's personality had drastically changed. She was willful, reckless, and refused to listen to Renee. Besides, she held nothing but contempt for Tony.

Renee felt helpless. The moment she got agitated, her liver and head would start to throb. She had no choice but to lie down on the couch and rest.

She gazed at the home she had built with her own two hands. It had once been a sanctuary of order and domestic bliss, but now it was a hollow shell, fractured beyond repair. The desolation forced her mind to wander back to where it all began, decades ago.

The next day, Donovan had a light schedule, so he made a point to accompany Giselle to the hospital for her prenatal checkup.

The baby was nearly three months old. They did fetal heart monitoring, an ultrasound, and blood tests. The results showed that all vital signs were normal. From now on, she just needed to come in for regular monthly checkups.

Seeing the relaxed expression on the doctor's face, both of them finally breathed a sigh of relief.
