"You're finally back!"

The moment Giselle saw his face, she visibly perked up. She sprang from her chair and even took a few steps toward him.

"Hello." Chris lifted his gaze and greeted her with a faint smile.

When he was alone with her, he had never once called her "Mrs. Kane" nor "Ms. Holt" and certainly not by her name.

He always addressed her simply as "you", though more than once he had almost slipped and called her "Nora" instead.

"Hello, my ass," Giselle teased. "When did you get back to the country? You didn't even give me a heads-up. I thought once you went back to Malithorn, you weren't coming back!"

Seeing the unmistakable delight in her eyes, full of welcome for him, Chris felt a stir of excitement in his chest. He didn't quite dare meet her gaze and habitually lowered his head.

"I landed two hours ago. I came straight here afterward." His voice was still that restrained, low register. "There was traffic on the way. Otherwise, I would've gotten to you sooner. Mr. Kane said I can come back to work by your side."

"Good. As long as you're back!" Giselle sized him up from head to toe, then noticed he looked a bit worn out. So, she teased him playfully, "How many days has it been since you shaved? Makes you look so much older!"

"Really?" At that, he turned his face aside, embarrassed. "I didn't check the mirror when I went out. I'll pay more attention in the future."

Giselle gave his shoulder a friendly pat. "Okay! Let's let the whole plantation incident go. Just keep your guard up from now on. You've been gone a whole week, and I'm really not used to it. I've piled up a lot of things you need to handle!"

As she spoke, she was going to start assigning him tasks, but considering he'd just made a grueling trip back from abroad and had come straight here from the airport, it felt too inhumane to make him work immediately.

So she said, "How about you rest for a bit first? Later, you can drive me to visit a client."
