Giselle was still recalling the charge the police had just mentioned; she hadn't expected Anne to be connected to such a crime. Yet, as the old saying went, "Those whom the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad."
Thinking of how unhinged Anne had been for the past two years, the crime no longer came as a surprise.
"Were you scared just now?" Chris came up to her again.
"No." Giselle had been lost for a long time in the shock of Anne's arrest and finally snapped out when she heard Chris' voice. She recalled the things Anne had shouted in the office earlier.
Then, she fixed her gaze on Chris and asked, "Do you know Anne personally?"
Chris' heart jolted, but his expression was well controlled; not even his eyes flickered. "Yeah. She approached me a few times in private."
Giselle's eyes widened again. "What do you mean? She approached you in private?"
"She came to me, offering money to set you up."
Hearing that, Giselle was momentarily stunned.
Anne secretly tried to bribe her bodyguard to frame her—that logic really was airtight.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier?" she asked.
"I didn't want you to worry. I could handle it myself."
Donovan didn't answer, but his unfathomable eyes and cool, detached expression amounted to tacit admission.
"What happened?" Giselle couldn't help wanting to know the details.
However, Donovan brushed her off. "You're pregnant now. It's not good for you to hear too much negative information. I'll tell you later. Stop asking."
"I'll be even more worried if you don't tell me! This is serious, okay? I'm only worried whether it'll affect you and our family! Spell everything out for me. I'll be at ease if I know this matter won't implicate you," Giselle insisted.
Donovan kept his head down, eating in silence.
It wasn't until after ten that night, when they were lying in bed about to sleep, that he finally revealed the truth behind Anne's case.
