The next day, Zachary returned from Usna. To welcome him back, the Kane family held a family banquet.
Donovan and Giselle also arrived early at the Kane Manor for dinner.
Since graduating with his master's degree last year, Zachary had followed the family's arrangement and stayed long-term at the Usna branch office, serving as general manager.
With Donovan occasionally coaching him, Zachary had more or less gotten back on track. Though he still rotated through girlfriends, most of his energy was now focused on running the branch.
Having spent so much time in Usna, he had a language advantage. He'd also studied medicine and finance-related fields and was familiar with the local market. Thus, he adapted pretty quickly once he started focusing on his work.
"Aunt Giselle, I heard you're pregnant. Congratulations!" Zachary came downstairs and greeted Giselle with a smile.
Giselle had been sipping her water and nearly choked at the sudden form of address.
"Just call me by my name. I'm only three years older than you. It feels weird to have you address me like that. Using my name sounds much better."
Dorothea interjected with a neutral tone, "That won't do. Even if you're a few years younger than Zach, in terms of seniority, you're still his elder. How can he address you by your name? What kind of manners is that? Be respectful."
"Yeah. You're officially my aunt now. What's there to be shy about?"
Times had changed; Zachary had long since let go of the knot in his heart.
"Ha!" Zachary suddenly realized his slip. "I mean, big brother! You're about the same age as me, so I mixed up the seniority for a second. You two should bear me a little sister; boys are too rowdy, girls are cuter!"
As soon as Zachary finished speaking, Grace walked over and snorted. "Zach, if Donovan hears that, he won't be pleased. He'd want you to give him a little brother instead."
Giselle was speechless. "You're overthinking it. My husband doesn't prefer sons over daughters. All we care about is for the baby to be healthy. We'll let nature take its course."
Grace let out a cold laugh. "Which man doesn't want a son? Don has so many assets, so he'll need a son to inherit them. It's fine, though. You're still young. If this baby is a girl, you can keep trying."
Dorothea shot Grace another glare. "What's wrong with a daughter? The Kane family hasn't had a girl for so many years. I actually hope this one is a girl! As long as it's a descendant of our family, it doesn't matter if the baby is a boy or a girl. In fact, the more the merrier!"
