Serena looked over at her father as the room quieted down. “Dad, should I send your luggage over too?”

Donald stiffened, his face turning cold. “I am not going to Southlake Villa. I am staying here.
“Rena, this is my home. Are you planning to kick me out now too?”
Serena gave a sweet smile. “I would not dare. Just asking. Since you and Yvonne are such a
team.”
Donald fell silent.
Yvonne and Kyana moved out that same day, both humiliated.
The so–called high–end apartment was no match for their old house.
Kyana stood in the middle of the downsized room, looked around, then flung her bags onto the floor.
Yvonne’s tone turned sharp. “Kyana, stop wasting your energy getting mad. You should be thinking about how to find someone powerful enough to back you.
“Forget about Trevor. He is not your match. And he will never turn against that girl. You need someone bigger.”
Kyana’s eyes narrowed. “Mom, you mean…”
“Yes. He is the only one who can help you take your place back.”
Yvonne’s eyes gleamed with resentment. If her daughter landed the Levine heir, she would have nothing to fear from that girl anymore.
Even if that girl lured Trevor back in, it would not matter anymore.
Standing next to that man, Trevor would fade into the background.
Kyana recalled the memorial service. She had seen him with Serena. Her confidence cracked for a second.
Would someone like him ever consider someone like her?
“Kyana, I know he is hard to win over. But there is always a way. If you end up carrying his child, I will make sure you marry into that family.”
Kyana pictured that tall, polished man in her head. He looked perfect. If she could fall asleep in his arms, she would say yes in a heartbeat.

Serena had borrowed Sebastian’s bodyguards and used them to deliver her payback.
It felt surprisingly good to have the upper hand for once.
She stood by the window and called him.
He answered on the first ring.
His voice came through deep and husky. “Hey. Is it all taken care of?”
“Yes.” Serena laughed lightly. “It is all done.
“Thank you, Sebastian.”
His voice lowered. “Just a thank–you? That’s all?”
Serena’s heart skipped a beat.
She knew Sebastian had a little interest in her.
Maybe it was just her face. Maybe that was all it was.
She had told herself from the beginning that leaning on him would come with a price.
But now that he had come through for her, the idea of owing him made her tense.
Maybe after getting married, she could feel better about it?
She hated thinking that way. But part of her still feared what he might ask in return.
“Sebastian, I…
“Can we wait until we are married?”
His voice paused. “Married?”
“Yes.” Serena closed her eyes. “I will thank you after we are married. Does that work for you?”
There was a moment of quiet. Then his tone cooled. “Is that so? Then tell me, sweetheart. Once we are married, how exactly do you plan to thank me?”
Serena froze.
