After everything that happened yesterday, she didn’t really want to see him. She didn’t know how to face him.
Then, the doorbell rang.
Serena froze. Who would come over at night? She hadn’t ordered anything.
While she was still confused, her phone lit up again with his name. She paused for a second, then finally picked up.
“Hello?”
His voice was smooth and magnetic. The tone rose slightly and carried a hint of intimacy. “It’s me. Open the door.”
Serena stayed silent.
So he had called because he was already at her door.
No matter how reluctant she felt, she still got up and went to let him in.
When she opened the door, a sharply defined face came into view. Today, he wore silver- rimmed glasses over his strong nose. They softened his deep gaze a little.
He wasn’t in a suit. He wore a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up, showing the veins on his arms. The top buttons were undone, revealing his collarbone.

He took off his shoes and walked in, barefoot. Serena remembered he had been barefoot the last time, too. “Sorry, I don’t have slippers for guys. I’ll get some tomorrow.”
It would be awkward if he had to walk barefoot every time.
She didn’t realize she was already thinking about him coming over again.
“Yeah, it’s fine. No rush. Day after tomorrow works too.”
Serena froze.
Day after tomorrow?
No rush?
Trying to hide her embarrassment, she coughed lightly. “Uh, why are you wearing glasses today?”
She was just making conversation.
He smiled. “I wear them sometimes. I met a slippery guy today. Glasses make me look less threatening.”
Serena stayed silent.
Nope.
The light reflected off his lenses as his gaze landed on the photo on her dresser.
“When was this taken?”
Serena walked over. “During my first year of grad school. A senior took it for me.”
