Sebastian started to pull the blanket down like he was about to go further. Serena reacted on instinct and turned her back so fast it was almost rude. She stretched an arm behind her without facing him. “Hand it over. I’ll deal with it and toss it in the wash.”
There was a hint of humor in his eyes when he replied, “Appreciate it.” The second the fabric touched her hand, she fled upstairs, not daring to look over her shoulder.
By the time she reached the stairs, her breathing was all over the place. That moment had seriously rattled her.
A few steps later, she slowed, frowning. Something did not add up. Who casually takes their clothes off in the middle of a conversation? And this was a guy who was supposedly sick with a fever? At that point, she could not tell who was actually overheated

He did not miss a beat, clearing his throat twice. “My bad. Mind doing me a favor and grabbing some sleepwear from the dressing room?”
Serena’s expression hardened. Instead of answering, she walked straight over and placed the back of her hand against his forehead again. Her tone dropped a few degrees. “It’s not hot.” She stared at him, slow and knowing. “Sebastian, you never had a fever to begin with.”
D’mn it. He had been caught red–handed. “Never had a fever?” He leaned into the act, even rubbing his own forehead as if checking himself. “Then, how come my head is still pounding?”
That was the last straw for Serena.
She felt completely toyed with. Without hesitation, she picked up the insulated food container. “If you’re not actually sick, I’m leaving.”
“Hold on.” Sebastian reached out and closed his fingers around her wrist, his tone instantly gentle. “I wasn’t trying to mess with you. Maybe it was your fish congee. It probably helped, so I’m feeling better now.”
Then, he added quietly, almost as an afterthought, “And you remember I was in a car crash yesterday, right?”
Her resolve softened despite herself. It was true. He had even posted about the accident the day before. There was no way he would ake something like that just to fool her. And anyway, what would be the payoff? All this trouble just to trick me into bringing over a bowl of fish congee?
She gave a soft, half–hearted sound of agreement. “Even so, you should at least be dressed,”

The abrupt formality caught her off guard. “It was… not really a hassle,” she replied. Even so, she knew staying any longer was a bad idea. “I’m leaving.”
