Chapter 142 Feeling Down
Chapter 142 Feeling Down
Sebastian lay back against the headboard, eyes half–lidded. “Thanks for the trouble. You even made congee for me.”
Serena almost forgot until it slipped her mind for a second. “How about I help you sit up so you can drink a little, then go back to sleep?”
He shook his head and tugged at the corner of his mouth. “I have no strength.” The hint in his tone was impossible to miss.
She pressed her lips together. “Then I will feed you.”
“Okay.” He answered so quickly it was as if he feared she might change her mind if he hesitated.
Serena held the bowl gently, blowing on each spoonful until it was just warm enough before carefully feeding him.
All he had to do was open his mouth and swallow, over and over again. Inside, he felt absurdly pleased.
Sebastian lifted one eyelid and watched her as she focused on his care.
The slight furrow between her brows made his chest tighten for a brief moment.
She seems to be in a bad mood today.
Serena probably did not even realize it herself. Whenever her mood dipped, her brows drew together just a little, so subtle that most people would never notice.
The man finished his bowl of congee slowly, studying her expression without revealing anything.
Is she in a bad mood because she has to take care of me? That does not seem like it.
“Did work go okay today?” he asked. His voice was rough, testing the waters.
“It was fine,” she said, and her tone was flat.
If it is not work, is Trevor giving her trouble again?
Sebastian’s gaze flickered for a split second. He decided to be straightforward. “Then why are you upset today?”
Serena froze, caught completely off guard.
Did he just pick up on how I’m feeling?
“Did someone mess with you again?” the man asked.
Serena shook her head, eyes downcast, her voice heavy with sadness. “No. Today’s Grandma’s mourning penod. Sorry if my mood rubbed off on you.”
Sebastian felt a pang in his chest. He’d messed up–he’d gotten the day wrong, thinking it was tomorrow. “I’m sorry.”
She looked at him, a little surprised by the apology. “Sebastian, it’s nothing. You don’t have to apologize
Judith had been gone for over a month now. Serena still sometimes got caught off guard by the sadness. And on top of that, the people who hurt Judith hadn’t faced any consequences yet

Sebastian held out his hand. “Come here.”
Serena hesitated, but her body moved toward him anyway.
He wrapped one arm around her waist, pulling her close, while the other hand gently patted her head. “Here, let me ruffle your hair a bit. Don’t be sad.”
A lump formed in her throat. Judith used to do the same, softly running her fingers through her hair. “I… I’m okay,” she said, her voice catching. “I just… I miss her a little.”
