Nathan’s brows drew together after he ended the call.

He checked the clock. “Trevor’s firm works with Beaumont Legal, right? Ask them tomorrow whether this is how they handle priority clients.”
The assistant nodded immediately. “Understood.”
Looks like she has stepped into real trouble this time.
The next morning, before Serena figured out how to respond to Sebastian, Winona’s name flashed across her screen.
“Rena, did I wake you?”
Serena hadn’t truly slept. She’d floated in and out of shallow dreams all night, and by morning, not a single image stayed in her
head.
“No, I’m awake. What’s wrong?”
“I know you usually sleep late on weekends. There’s something I forgot to tell you. That day after we split up, Elijah picked me up, right? I mentioned Ethan’s situation, hoping he’d have a suggestion. I didn’t expect him to call your boyfriend.”
“My boyfriend?”
Winona sounded guilty. “Sorry, I didn’t know he’d do that. Mr. Levine found out. I checked the trending list yesterday. That Amber scandal… pretty sure he pushed it up, didn’t he?”
Serena’s heart jolted. So it really was him. Did he really do it for me?
“Does Sebastian know Ethan?” she asked quietly.
Winona laughed. “Come on. If he knew Mr. Levine personally, would he need me to chase a lawyer? Mr. Levine’s backing you. He’s avenging you!”
Serena’s thoughts stalled.
Had he already done too much for her?
Those messages from last night resurfaced, forcing her to confront what existed between them.
If this were just a convenience, she could accept it calmly.
But if he meant something real…
She couldn’t return something that deep. Not now.
The silence stretched.
“Rena? You still there?”

Serena snapped back. “Yeah. I remembered something. I’ll call you later.”
Winona stared at the disconnected screen, unsure what she’d done wrong.

Serena pressed a palm to her chest and breathed slowly. The morning air on the balcony cooled her thoughts. Then she dialed his number.
Two rings, and he answered.
His voice sounded low and husky. “Yeah?”
“Sebastian, I just woke up. I fell asleep last night and saw your messages late,” she said, guilt creeping in.
“Mm. I figured.”
“About yesterday-”
He cut in smoothly. “Serena, I’m not living like a monk. After we marry, we share a bed. I’m agreeing to this marriage for Old Mr. Levine. You want your leverage. Fine. But we’re not sleeping in separate rooms. Clear?”
“Crystal.”
Relief slid through her chest.
smarrying me to deal with Old Mr. Levine. Nothing romantic. Nothing complicated.
too much.
