“Trevor won’t even step forward himself, but he sends his father to file a complaint? That’s ridiculous.”
Serena went still. “You’re saying the person who teamed up with Mr. Rowe to suspend me is Nathan?”
“Yeah.” Eugene sounded irritated. “His assistant reached out to Chris. That guy’s been circling us forever, just waiting to pin something on us.
“Go home for now. Treat it as leave. I’ll handle the rest.”
Serena felt a surge of gratitude. “Thanks, Boss. Sorry, I’ve dragged you into this again.”
“Enough.” Eugene waved it off. “Who doesn’t screw up when they’re young? Next time someone, use better judgment. Oh, my cousin just came back from overseas. Want an introduction?”
The moment she heard matchmaking, Serena shut it down.
“No. I’m not in the headspace.”

“Fair. Then travel a bit. Clear your mind. Think of it as a break. A month at most. Once the merger finishes, I’ll pull you back in.”
Serena smiled faintly. “Okay.”
A sharp light flickered in her eyes. She wouldn’t need a month.
She’d return sooner.
“Mr. Nathan, Beaumont Legal confirmed Ms. Steele is suspended.”
Nathan’s pen paused over the paperwork. He answered calmly, “Understood.”

She transferred her portion to Shawn, then headed home.
Sebastian happened to be abroad on business for the week.
She already had the villa’s passcode. After checking in with the butler, she quietly added some decor.
When she finished, the sterile space carried warmth for the first time. It felt lived in.
Charles watched with a pleased smile, his eyes crinkled with happiness.
He already considered her the future Mrs. Levine.
The first woman Sebastian had ever brought home.
Truthfully, the first woman ever beside him.
Charles used to think Sebastian would grow old alone.
If June were still alive, she would’ve been relieved.
After Serena left, Charles sent Sebastian photos of the updated villa.
“Mr. Levine, Ms. Steele stopped by and made a few changes.”
Sebastian didn’t see the message until three hours later.
Time zones. He had just woken, preparing to fly again.
“She came during the day?”
It isn’t a weekend. How did she have time to drop by during the day?
“Yes. She said she’ll come by when she has time these days.”
Sebastian replied evenly, “Inform me next time she visits.”
