The instant Sebastian’s cool gaze met Serena’s, the frost melted. Warmth flooded his eyes, gentle and steady.
The umbrella tilted wider above her, cutting off the thin curtain of rain.
“Sorry,” he said quietly. “The flight got delayed. I’m late.”
Her lashes trembled. “How did you know I’d be here?”
A soft laugh slipped from him. “Before we register the marriage, shouldn’t I ask your grandmother’s permission properly?”
He placed the umbrella handle into her pale fingers. “Hold this. Let me greet her first.”
Serena watched his back as he stepped into the drizzle. He lowered his head before the gravestone, expression solemn, eyes closed. Whatever he said remained locked in silence. Then he bowed once.
When he turned back, he reclaimed the umbrella. “Let’s go. We’ll head down.”
She tilted her head. “Were you talking to Grandma just now in your head?”
His smile sharpened. “I was asking if she’s willing to let her precious granddaughter marry me.”
“And?” Serena lifted a brow. “Did she answer?”
“She did. She said we should register tomorrow.”
Her mouth twitched. She muttered, “You picked the date yourself. How did it become Grandma’s decision?”
Sebastian leaned closer, ear near her lips. “What was that?”
“Nothing. Tomorrow’s fine. My dad’s waiting at the base. Should we go separately?”
“I have to return to the Steele Residence to grab my voter registration card.”
A laugh colored his voice. “We don’t need that anymore. The policy changed yesterday.”
“Oh.” She blinked. She’d forgotten.
“Then, I’ll go down first?” she said, a hint of guilt creeping in.

“I rushed straight here after landing, and you won’t even give me a proper title?” Sebastian teased, pretending offense.
She pressed her lips together. “We agreed. Not public yet.”
The announcement would be on her terms.
Sebastian smiled faintly and dipped his head closer. “Then, how about a reward?”
Heat rushed to her ears. “What reward?”
He dragged out the words. “What do
you think?”
She understood. She just hadn’t expected him to be this shameless.
She shut her eyes, lashes fluttering as she leaned in to kiss his cheek.
At the last second, he tilted his head and stole her lips instead.
Warmth brushed her mouth. Her eyes flew open. “You-”
He pulled back immediately, fingertip grazing the corner of his lips. “Thanks. I like this reward.”
She huffed and stormed downhill under his umbrella.
Sebastian watched her retreat, amusement curling his mouth. “My wife is adorable.”
Tomorrow, that word would be official.
…
At the base of the hill, Donald and the others were still waiting.
