Trevor brushed the bridge of his nose, clearly uncomfortable. “Change it. You’ve kept that dress for too long. The one you have now suits you better.”
Amber studied him warily. “Are you sure? Trevor, when you bought this dress for me, I couldn’t bring myself to wear it. I was overseas at the time, and I wanted to save it until you were here so I could show you. Look–it’s still untouched.”
“That’s enough!” Trevor snapped, irritation flaring. “Don’t wear it. It’s outdated and ugly. It’s been sitting around for years–just stick with what you’re already wearing!”
Caught off guard by his sudden temper, Amber fought back the burning sensation rising in her eyes.
In her heart, she believed a simple white sundress was timeless.
Still, she had no desire to provoke him further. Holding her emotions in check, she returned the dress in her hands to the wardrobe.
Soon after, they left together for city hall. By coincidence, it was the same office where Serena and Sebastian had registered their license in that district.
The hall was nearly empty. After only two numbers were called, it was their turn.
To mark the occasion, Deanna had insisted on coming along.
“Trevor, Amber, I’ll record a video for you later,” she announced.
When Amber finally held the marriage certificate, a sense of relief settled deep in her chest.
The clerk assisting them had already heard that today’s couple included the heir to Levine Group, so he had arrived early in anticipation.
He was hoping for a generous tip.
He wasn’t alone–even the janitor who had received a tip during/Sebastian’s visit waited outside, anxious she might miss her chance if she hesitated.
Standing at the oath stand, Amber spoke softly, a hint of shyness in her voice. “Trevor, let’s recite the vows together.”
Trevor’s lips twitched. He had little interest, but he didn’t want to dampen her spirits.
“Fine. Go ahead.”
With flushed cheeks, Amber read each line carefully. Trevor echoed her words without emotion, his tone stiff and detached, as if he were delivering a routine speech at a corporate event.
Halfway through recording, Deanna sensed something wasn’t right.
“Trevor, put some feeling into it. Again. This recording doesn’t count.”

The clerk quickly stepped forward. “Why don’t I film it for you? We handle this kind of thing all the time.”
After a brief pause, Deanna nodded. “Alright. Thank you.”
Trevor’s frustration reached its peak, but with his mom occasionally prompting him, he managed to sound slightly less mechanical than before.
Even so, Deanna remained dissatisfied. Knowing her son wouldn’t agree to another retake, she chose not to press further.
“Okay, that’s enough. Take a look and see if you’re satisfied.”
The clerk blinked, watching her expectantly.
Deanna pursed her lips. “It’s acceptable. Thank you.”
She turned and rejoined her son and the others.
