She smiled. “Let’s go, Sebastian. It’s over. Thanks for coming. I’m guessing that was your first?”
Sebastian’s lips pulled into a small smile. “It wasn’t hard. You enjoyed it. That’s what counts.”
The crowd began pushing forward. Then someone shouted, “Look up!”
Above the ocean, dozens of lights rose into the sky. They dashed across it in streaks, like a cascade of shooting stars.
The shapes split apart, then regrouped. Piece by piece, they formed a ring box in the sky.
“It’s a ring box! It’s opening!”
Serena’s mouth opened slightly. “Are those drones?”
“Yeah.”
Sebastian’s voice was quiet.
She tilted her head. “What did you say?”
“I said yeah. Drones.”
They stood at the edge of the crowd. Everyone else was looking up. Nobody noticed Sebastiar reach into his pocket and pull out a real ring.
He went down on one knee. He slipped the glittering band onto her finger. “Serena, will you marry me?”
His voice was rough but gentle, like a secret shared between lovers.
Serena felt the cool metal slide onto her finger. She looked down, stunned. His face was right there, set against the glow of the sky.
He didn’t look away. His eyes locked onto hers, waiting.
“Who’s Serena?”
Someone shouted from behind them.
Up above, the drones formed her name in glowing letters. “Serena, will you marry
me?”

Serena’s eyes stung. Her chest ached. The look in his eyes was so tender.
They had already signed the papers. Why do this?
“Sebastian, you…”

He didn’t budge. He held her hand and asked again, even softer this time. “Serena, will you marry me?”
Her heart skipped.
No one could resist that kind of tenderness.
For once, Serena didn’t stop the emotion. “Yeah. I will.
“I will.”
As soon as the words left her lips, the stars burst into a flurry of hearts. Trails of light danced around her name.
Then the diamond from the drone display floated out and gently dropped into the glowing outline of a hand, sliding over the finger.
“Thank you, Serena.” Sebastian leaned in and kissed her ring finger.
If love were like caring for a garden, he’d make sure she bloomed brighter than the moon and sparkled like the stars.
