Eugene’s gaze darkened as he watched his former wife walk away. “Why is she here?”

“She’s just here to stir things up. Don’t worry–she doesn’t have the power to bully us.” Serena had no intention of reporting anything to anyone.

Inside her office, Poppy was still seething. The more she thought about Serena, the more irritated she became.

Instead of taking the car, Serena ordered a ride back to the firm, finished her tasks, signed out, and went downstairs right on schedule.

The moment she stepped out of the elevator, she ran into Poppy on her way in.

“Ms. Steele, you really have it easy. What kind of attorney leaves work on the dot every single day?”

Serena shot her a cool look. “Efficient people finish their work on time. Inefficient ones need endless overtime to prove they’re dedicated.

“I won’t delay you from your overtime shift, Ms. Farlane.”

Poppy’s expression twisted through several shades, her hands clenching tightly.
