This two–million–dollar business van was already the most affordable option in the entire fleet.
It was the vehicle their housekeeper normally used for shopping trips.
Patrick still hesitated, thinking it might be too modest for Serena. “Or perhaps that one over there…”
Before he could finish his thought, Serena made her decision. “We’ll take this one.”
A Lexus. Not exactly extravagant. It was surprising that Sebastian’s family owned such an unassuming car.
Serena slid into the car. “Come on, Patrick. I’m running late!”
Patrick responded promptly, “Yes, Mrs. Levine.”
Today, Serena would have to make do.
By sheer coincidence, Poppy ran into Serena once more.
This time, she was convinced she’d finally get a look at the car.
So it really is a Lexus. Maybe the car from yesterday is just a loaner.
She cast a smug glance at the older man in the driver’s seat.
Poppy had imagined Serena married someone impressive, but it seemed he was just a middle- aged man of ordinary means.
She’s really pathetic and desperate for a man.
“Ms. Steele! What a surprise! Is that your husband? He looks… quite mature.”
Serena sometimes wished for a quick way to silence her.
“Ms. Farlane, do you talk like this in court too? No verification, just rumors?
“Even if my husband were older, he’s still younger than you. From now on, I’ll just call you Madam Farlane, if that’s okay.”
The words hit hard, and Poppy’s smug expression immediately twisted into a scowl.

Serena brushed past her and pressed the elevator button for Close.
Outside, Poppy’s high–pitched complaints quickly faded.
Serena felt an unexpected sense of relief.

“Good morning, Ms. Farlane,” the receptionist said politely, but Poppy stormed straight toward their office.
“Ms. Steele, I’m only speaking the truth! Why are you so sensitive?” Poppy jabbed relentlessly.
Serena rolled her eyes. “Sensitive? Madam Farlane, being older isn’t your fault. You don’t have to turn every day into a contest.”
“Why not measure things like win rates, client load, or the revenue we bring in? That’s more meaningful, isn’t it?”
Poppy froze. She had no comeback for that.
After a long pause, she finally muttered a feeble dig. “What’s so impressive about a few- hundred–thousand–dollar Lexus?”
Lily and Shawn exchanged confused glances.
“What’s her problem?”
Serena gave a cool smile. “Nothing serious. She just saw my family dropping me off and assumed it was my husband, then tried to make a joke.”
Lily snorted. “Please. What’s wrong with a Lexus? Showing off like that is just bullying!”
“Lily, she’s not worth stressing over.”
“What happened?” Eugene walked in, noticing the tense expressions on his team’s faces.
“Boss, it’s obviously Ms. Farlane! Serena just got married, and it should be a happy moment, but she keeps mocking her husband for driving a Lexus!
“Serena, I could have your husband pull up in a Cullinan from Uncle Sebastian’s collection. That’d shut her up.”
Serena chuckled. “No need. Thanks, Lily. I really don’t care what she thinks.”
