Normally, he despised people checking their phones during meetings–unless it was absolutely urgent.

He held himself to the same standard.

Yet ever since he and Serena tied the knot, he occasionally caught himself checking messages. If they weren’t from her, he simply ignored them until later.

Today’s notification, however, came from Eugene, Serena’s direct manager.

Raising a hand, he announced, “Let’s take a ten–minute break.”

He stepped into the pantry and checked the

message.

“Mr. Levine, did you bring Serena to the office today?”

Sebastian frowned, puzzled. Did something happen this morning?

“Not me. I had an early appointment. My driver brought her in. Mr. Beaumont, is something wrong?”

Eugene hinted indirectly, prompting a straightforward reply from Sebastian.

“Understood, Mr. Beaumont. Thanks. If something like this happens again, please keep watch.”

And just like that, Eugene unintentionally became Sebastian’s eyes and ears.

During the firm’s weekly meeting, Poppy kept taking subtle digs at Serena.

But Serena’s abilities were undeniable. None of those petty remarks even phased her.

Adam suspected Poppy had swallowed a dose of irritability this morning.

He even held Chris back briefly. “Chris, did you and Poppy have a disagreement?”

Chris shook his head. “No, Mr. Rowe. I flew in this morning and came straight here. No time to argue with

her.”

“That’s good. As long as it didn’t happen. Remember, you’re married, and she’s Eugene’s ex. That alone could spark tension. Talk to her–tell her not to pick on Eugene’s team so harshly. Otherwise, she’d come across as petty. Internal conflicts make the firm look unprofessional.”

Chris nodded stiffly. “Understood, Mr. Rowe. I’ll handle it immediately. You won’t have to worry again.”

Adam knew he couldn’t prevent every conflict, but fewer clashes were far better than many. Otherwise, the firm would feel like Poppy’s personal battlefield.

After the meeting, Chris called Poppy into his office.

Poppy had been simmering all day, and her husband confronting her was the spark to the fuse. “I’m insane? What did I do? Now, even you are taking her side?”

Chris shut the door quickly. “I don’t follow. What are you talking about?

“Who do you think I’m siding with? If you want to call someone out, at least aim correctly. You can’t just snap at whoever passes by. That’s madness.”

Hearing an outsider challenge her was one thing, but her husband taking that person’s side made her blood boil. “Madness? Didn’t you hear her insulting me this morning? She’s the junior–who gave her the right to talk down to me? I only said her husband might be broke, and now she’s holding a grudge!”

Chris shook his head, unable to understand her logic. “Why are you even bringing up someone else’s husband being broke? Rich or broke, it’s none of your business! Mr. Rowe just pulled me aside to talk about your behavior–so rein it in!”

Poppy stomped out, brooding.
