the lawsuit.

She froze. “Ms. Lane, what do you mean by withdrawing the lawsuit?”

“You didn’t know? The client’s mother came to request the withdrawal. She said she already reached a private settlement with the hospital.”

It felt like a bolt of lightning had hit Serena.

She called Ava right away, but Ava didn’t answer.

Eugene noticed the change in her expression at her desk and asked, “What happened?”

Serena felt torn inside. “The legal aid client withdrew the case.”

“Withdrew? Weren’t we sure we’d win?”

Serena grabbed her bag. “Boss. I’m going to the hospital.”
