But this three million had been spent in a way that didn’t make sense, and he had to find a way to get the lost money back.

Three hours later, Elijah received a call from Connor.

“Hello,” Elijah said weakly. “Finally remembered me, huh?”

Among his friends, two were married, and one was secretly in a relationship. He was the only one left-a loser who had failed at dating.

“Did you manage to win over the big celebrity?”

Hearing that, Elijah felt even more bitter.

“What do you think? You guys are all busy with your lovers. Who ever cared about my life?”

“Hey, don’t say that. I just bought a yacht, but I haven’t used it yet. You get first dibs! Just trick your celebrity crush onto it. You two drift at sea for a couple of days-it’ll be romantic, and surely you’ll make up!”

Elijah’s eyes lit up. “Really?”

“Really! Do you think I would lie to you?” Connor said firmly, and Elijah believed him completely.

“I’ve got a few employees on the yacht, though. You’re not expecting me to pay their salaries, are you?”

Elijah’s smile faded after two seconds. “I’ll pay. How much?”

“Three hundred and fifty.”

Elijah frowned. “That’s cheap. You’ve got such a huge yacht, but only one employee? Aren’t you paying him peanuts? You’d better be careful, or someone might sue you!”

Connor stared at the transfer notification. This guy had clearly been single too long, for his brain wasn’t working.

After her exam finished at 5 p.m., Serena stopped by a bookstore and picked up a few cookbooks.

She planned to cook for Sebastian herself in a few days, and also to discuss something important. Cooking in person would show more sincerity.

But while she was still in the bookstore, her phone rang.

“Are you done with work yet? I’m at your firm.”

Serena’s heart skipped a beat. “I’m not at the office right now. I just left.”

Sebastian frowned. “You just left?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

It was the first time she had lied, and she felt a little guilty.

Sebastian fell into deep thought. He had actually been waiting downstairs at the office for an hour. To avoid disturbing her, he had purposely waited until 5 p.m. to call.

If she had just left, why hadn’t he seen her come out?

Sebastian pressed his lips together. “So where are you now?”

“At the bookstore. Do you want to come over?”

Hearing that, Sebastian chuckled softly. He was probably overthinking it.

He stepped on the gas. “Wait there. I’m coming right now.”

Serena stood at the door, smiling as she waited. Sebastian got out of the car and opened the door for her.

“Why aren’t you inside waiting?” he asked.

She smiled shyly. “I couldn’t wait to see you, so I wanted to wait right here.”
