Serena’s eyes widened in shock. Well, d*mn! That’s a bombshell.

Lily let out a snicker. “Wait until you hear this–gossip number two is even hotter. Ms. Farlane and Mr. Lopez aren’t together anymore–they’ve divorced! And on top of that, Ms. Farlane quit her job!
“After that, she tried to talk to Boss, hoping to patch things up and get back together, but he refused. That day almost caused Ms. Dempsey to misread the situation. Honestly, it was my first time seeing Boss sweet–talk his girlfriend.”
Serena arched a brow, surprised by all the shocking turns that had happened in just the year she’d been away.
“I didn’t notice Ms. Dempsey earlier,” she said.
“She went out of town for a hearing. She should be back sometime next week.”
Serena nodded silently, wrapping up her day. Eugene mentioned he would take her out for a welcome dinner after work.
Then, her phone rang–it was the hospital.
Donald didn’t have much time left.
When Serena arrived at the hospital, she was greeted by the caretaker.
“Ms. Steele, it’s been a while. I’m glad you’re here. Honestly, your dad was actually recovering well this past year, but a psychiatric patient from another room kept taunting him. Your dad’s pride got the better of him, and he often refused to attend therapy sessions.
“Over time, skipping therapy led to a severe lung infection, and that’s how it ended up this.”

Serena nodded. “I understand. Thank you.”
She didn’t head straight to the ward but instead sought out the attending physician. The doctor confirmed everything the caretaker had told her.
For patients with this type of limb impairment, lung complications often become the fatal factor.
Finally, Serena walked into the ward. The caretaker quietly slipped away.

Chapter 359 I Have Finally Let Go
Secing Donald tangled in tubes, she could only perceive him as old and frail.
His eyelids flickered weakly. A faint glimmer appeared in his eyes, almost as if he were saying,
You’re here.
Serena kept her expression calm and emotionless. She pulled up a chair beside him and stared at the monitor, noting how his heartbeats were slowing.
“Dad, do you regret it? If you hadn’t been so distant, if you’d stayed loyal to Mom, if you hadn’t played favorites and treated us unfairly, maybe none of this would have happened.”
A bitter laugh escaped her lips. “Life doesn’t give second chances.”
A single tear rolled down Donald’s face. His heartbeat then leveled out into a flat line.
He had no energy left to speak a word before it stopped.
Serena, overwhelmed by a mix of grief and relief, hit the call button. “Nurse, my dad’s heart just stopped.”
The Steele family lost everything–they went bankrupt.
Only a handful of people attended the funeral.
Serena asked Sebastian to lift the restrictions on Kyana.
Yet that ungrateful girl never came back, not even to pay her final respects to the father who had spoiled her more than anyone.
Kyana seemed to remember only the last slap he had given her, forgetting every kindness he had ever shown.
“I’m not going back! He’s dead, and he never treated me like a daughter anyway. He even hit
me!”
Serena shook her head in disbelief. The world really did breed all kinds of people.
She laid Donald to rest beside Judith. It felt like the final thing she could do for her. Sebastian held her close as they walked down the hill.
“If it hurts, let yourself cry,” he whispered.
Serena shook her head. “I don’t feel pain. I just feel like I’ve finally let go.”
