“Yes.” Evelyn nodded sadly. “When I divorced my ex–husband, he got custody of my daughter. He recently contacted me again when she turned eighteen, saying she had gotten herself a boyfriend who didn’t seem like a decent person. He was hoping I could talk some sense into her.

“I heard she’s been skipping class lately, spending her time just hanging around with that delinquent.” She sighed. “But we were never close to begin with… I don’t even know how to get through to her.”

Serena listened quietly. It really was a difficult situation.

“You saw him, too,” Evelyn continued. “That boyfriend of hers… Whether it’s tattoos, smoking, gang fights, or street racing… he does a bit of everything. Drugs are the only thing he hasn’t dipped his fingers in–yet. I’m really worried about my daughter.”
