“Someone witnessed the entire process of you abandoning the baby. You even staged a fake kidnapping scene. What else do you have to say for yourself?”
Amber looked completely shattered, her mind blank. “Who? Who framed me? Officer, you have to believe me! I swear I’ve been wronged!”
But when Tony walked into the hospital room carrying the baby, the sight struck Amber like a hammer to the chest.
“I saw you abandon the baby with my own eyes.” Tony said sharply. “What do you have to say now?”
“You venomous woman,” he continued in a furious tone. “You’re utterly vicious! I’ll take the child back and raise the baby myself. For the rest of your life, don’t you dare come near this child again.”
The nanny stepped forward to testify as well.
“No wonder she never liked the baby,” she said angrily. “So it turns out it’s an illegitimate child she had behind her husband’s back! Officer, you must punish her severely. This woman is heartless–she even abandoned her own flesh and blood!”
Even the so–called kidnapper, who had previously run off with the money, showed up to identify her.
Witnesses. Evidence. Everything pointed straight at Amber.
There was no way out.
Amber collapsed weakly against the hospital bed. Her hands and feet turned ice–cold. She didn’t dare imagine what it would be like if she spent the rest of her life in prison.
Then suddenly, a thought flashed through her mind.
was pregnant.
“Officer! I’m pregnant!” Amber blurted. “You can’t arrest me!”
The police looked helpless. Of all the ridiculous luck–this woman had managed to run into it.
“Contact your lawyer,” one officer said.
There were still officers stationed in the hospital. Amber begged them to lend her a phone, since she had thrown her own phone away long ago.
Trevor’s call finally connected. A cold male voice came through the receiver.
“Hello.”
“Trevor! Trevor, it’s me, Amber! Please don’t hang up–just listen to me, okay? I’m begging you!

ignore me. If I’m pregnant, I won’t have to go to prison. Trevor, please save me, okay?”
Trevor felt his stomach churn again.
He stood beside his grandfather’s hospital bed.
Nathan noticed his expression. “What’s wrong? Who was on the phone?”
Trevor let out a heavy sigh. “Amber. She’s in a hospital room upstairs. She says she’s pregnant.”
Nathan looked stunned.

Serena raised an eyebrow as well. She had to admit, Amber was like a cockroach that just wouldn’t die.
For abandoning a baby, Amber could easily face at least five years in prison. But if she were pregnant, she might be released on bail or have the sentence suspended.
Serena folded her arms and leaned into Sebastian’s embrace.
Sebastian sneered. “You’re not actually thinking of keeping the baby in her belly, are you?”
Bryce overheard. He pulled off his oxygen tube and pointed angrily at Trevor.
“I won’t acknowledge it!” he snapped. “If you want to acknowledge it, do it yourselves! Don’t bring some random b*stard child into the Levine family!”
Trevor’s expression darkened. “I’ll go upstairs and take a look.”
Bryce waved a hand impatiently.
“Nathan, you all go
home. Sebastian can stay here. Rena, you go back and rest too. You didn’t sleep well at the hospital last night.”
Right now, Bryce only felt at peace when he looked at his youngest son.
Not having children was fine. But having an illegitimate child and trying to make the Levine family raise
it?
That was unacceptable.
The whole situation had dealt Bryce a heavy blow.
