Chapter 451 The Window Visit
Dressed entirely in black, she crouched in the corner, hiding from her mom. Quiet tears slipped down her face.
Yet someone still found her.
“Hey, Lucinda.”
Lucinda didn’t turn around. Her shoulders trembled as she tried to swallow her sobs. Julian, still only a child himself, felt an ache in his chest when he saw her like that.
“Stop crying, Lucinda. I won’t mess with you anymore, okay?”
But losing her father at such a young age wasn’t something she could stop grieving just because someone told her to.
Julian said nothing after that. He simply sat down beside her. The two of them remained there together from sunset until nightfall.
Only when Sophia came looking for her did Lucinda hurriedly wipe away her tears.
“Mom, I’m here!”
She didn’t spare Julian a single glance. On her short little legs, she ran straight to her mom.
After that day, Julian didn’t see Lucinda for a long time.
Lucinda grew much quieter. The fearless, lively little princess she had once been seemed to have disappeared, replaced by a girl who restrained herself in everything she did.
Later, Julian heard that her mom had remarried. Perhaps that was when Lucinda became even more withdrawn.
On the night of the Mid–Autumn Festival, her uncle’s family was holding a celebration for Amber’s birthday.
Lucinda had a huge quarrel with Amber.
After locking herself in her room, she refused to attend Amber’s birthday party.
Lucinda felt that her life was rather miserable.
It was a holiday, yet her mom was away, and her dad was no longer there.

Meanwhile, the whole family was busy celebrating the birthday of the person she hated most.
Sitting on the bed, she felt her eyes redden again.
She used to hate how Amber cried at every little thing, but now she had become just as irritating.
Knock knock.
Startled, Lucinda looked up and saw a boy outside the window. She opened it, and Julian climbed inside,
“You… Are you here to rob me?”
Julian reached out and roughly ruffled her hair. “What are you thinking, Lucinda? I brought you some cake. My mom made it. Try some.”
At the sight of the colorful cakes, Lucinda suddenly felt her nose sting.
Julian became a little flustered. “Are you crying because you’re hungry?”
“You’re so annoying!”
Julian always had a way of ruining the mood.
Taking a bite, Lucinda said, “It’s really sweet. Why did you climb in through the window?”
Julian scratched his head. “I guess it feels cooler this way?”
“I’m leaving. Eat slowly. Don’t cry anymore.”
Lucinda pressed her lips together as she watched the stubborn boy climb back out through the window. Then she called after him, “Julian, thank you!”
Standing on the windowsill, Julian turned back and gave her a small smile. “Yeah, you’re
welcome.”
It was probably the first time Lucinda had ever called out to him of her own accord.
Trevor looked at the figure jumping out of the window, his expression complicated. “Julian, what are you doing?”
Julian brushed off his hands. “Nothing. I’m just practicing the long jump in advance. If I jump from upstairs, I’ll be able to jump farther.”

Trevor could never understand teenage boys and their constant need to act cool.
Shaking his head, he went upstairs to call his cousin down. But it seemed she had already fallen asleep, so he gave up.
