Chapter 64 The Aftermath
The paramedic was quick to inspect her arm after hearing Serena’s words.
Ironically, Trevor’s side had suffered the lightest injuries between them.

Serena watched as he followed Amber into the ambulance without even looking back. At this point, her heart was numb to everything else.
The nurse looked at Serena and said, “Miss, please get in the ambulance. If it really is a fracture, you should get an X–ray to see whether surgery is needed.”
“Okay” Serena withdrew her gaze.
She had been mistaken. Disappointment was a never–ending abyss.
“Miss, I need to use a cast to prevent the injury from being jostled. Please return to the hospital in 45 days to have it removed. Be careful not to get it wet during this time.”
Serena nodded absentmindedly. “Doctor, can I be discharged now?”
“Yes. You’re mostly fine. Just make sure to rest during your recovery. You may experience some discomfort during the first few days. So, I suggest placing a pillow under your shoulder when you sleep. Keeping it elevated would help reduce the swelling.”
Her arm was in a sling, and she had her test results in hand when she passed by the room where Amber was staying and heard her crying inside the ward.
“Trevor, I was so scared earlier. I was terrified. My parents died in a car accident.”
Trevor seemed heartbroken as he comforted her gently. “There, there. Don’t be scared. You won’t die as long as I’m here. I’m your brother, so I’ll stay by your side. I’ll never let anything happen to you. If someone must die, I’ll definitely die before you do.”
Serena’s stomach churned. She hurried past the ward and headed for the elevator.
The way they kept referring to each other as siblings when they were in love with each other made her sick.
Thank God, she wasn’t going to marry him.
At least that way, she wouldn’t have to suffer for the rest of her life.
It was already 11 p.m. when she left the hospital. Bryce was probably already asleep by now.
Serena felt her phone vibrate in her pocket.
She had gotten a text from Sebastian an hour ago.
He’d texted, ‘Have you arrived at the Levine residence?‘
She didn’t reply, assuming that he was on the plane at the moment.
Trevor finally managed to soothe Amber. Then, he went to the ER to ask about Serena’s condition.

“Oh, you mean the patient in the pink dress earlier? She’s already left.”
Trevor frowned. “Is her injury… serious?”

“Are you a family of hers? Do you not know that her arm was fractured? Still, it’s not too serious. She was discharged after getting a
cast.”
A fracture?
Her injury was far more serious than Trevor had imagined.
He wanted to call her to ask after her. However, he quickly remembered that she’d blocked his number when he took out his
phone.
A surge of irritation instantly rose in his chest.
Why was she so stubborn? A fracture was a big deal. He wouldn’t have dismissed her if she’d come running to him!
Amber stayed in the hospital for observation overnight and was discharged early the next morning.
‘Trevor, is Serena doing alright?”
Trevor stiffened and replied coldly, “She’s fine. Just a fracture.”
He had planned to take Amber back to the Levine residence, but she had gently turned him down. So, he had no choice but to drop her off at her apartment.
Amber invited him in, saying, “Trevor, do you want to come upstairs for a drink?”
After a moment’s thought, Trevor said, “No. I need to go to the office this morning.”
Amber lowered her gaze, seemingly lost in thought. After a beat, she murmured softly, “Alright, then.”
The wedding would be held tomorrow.
Although she knew where Trevor’s heart lay, she still hadn’t heard any news about the engagement being called off.
Amber sneered inwardly as she thought, Serena’s so shameless! It seems I’ll have to give her another push.
So, she hailed a cab and headed in the opposite direction from where Trevor had gone instead of heading up to her apartment.
Serena left early that morning. It had been too late for her to visit Bryce yesterday, but she had to go and call the engagement off today. After all, the wedding was tomorrow.
However, she received a call from the nursing home just as she got into the car.
“Ms. Steele, you have to come over right away. Old Mrs. Steele has fainted!”
“What?” Serena felt the blood drain from her face. “Which hospital is she in? I’ll be right over!”
