“Knock it off! Who raised you to be so disrespectful? How dare you call him by his name?”

Serena paid no attention, leaning back into the seat and letting her eyes drift shut.

“I’m exhausted. I need a nap. If there’s anything important to discuss, we’ll handle it at home.”

Yvonne exchanged a glance with Donald, and without a word, both fell silent in quiet agreement.

Two hours later, they finally arrived at the Steele residence.

Since her grandma had just passed away, Serena intended to stay at the Steele house for some time.

She planned to be present for all the memorial arrangements and ceremonies that followed.

Without looking back, Serena announced, “I’m going upstairs.”

Donald called after her. “Rena, you’re becoming more and more defiant. Is it really that hard to just stand still and listen when I’m talking?”

Serena sank back onto the couch. “If you have something to say, just say it. I’m completely drained.”

Yvonne tried to ease the tension. “Rena, don’t take it the wrong way. Your dad isn’t after much. It’s just… your grandma owned five percent of the shares, and he had set them aside as her retirement security.”

So that’s what they are after.

Serena let out a faint, mocking laugh. “So? Do you want them? Sorry to disappoint you.”

“Grandma had already notarized the transfer to me before she passed. If you want more, ask Dad. He still controls 59 percent of the shares.”

Yvonne’s teeth ached with frustration.

If she could get anything from Donald, there’d be no need to chase the five percent that belonged to Serena.

Having stood by Donald for years without receiving a single share, it was no wonder she felt bitter.

Donald spoke evenly. “I can’t simply hand over my shares. I need them to keep the major shareholders balanced. Let’s keep this simple–transfer your share directly to Yvonne.”

“Rena, don’t be unreasonable. Don’t provoke your

dad.”

Serena laughed sharply. “Are you serious? Those shares were left to me by Grandma. Why on earth would I give them to someone

else?”

Seeing Serena’s resolve, Yvonne’s face darkened. She tugged on Donald’s sleeve. “Donald…”

Donald had very little leverage over his daughter.

Just being around them had completely killed her appetite.

“What does that even mean? You promised me that five percent after your mom passed. Now it’s in your daughter’s hands. What about Kyana and me? Aren’t we family?”

Donald rubbed his temples. “You saw how stubborn she is. Give it a few days. I’ll line up a few blind dates for her. Before she gets married, those shares will be back where they belong.”

Yvonne’s eyes lit up. “I have a nephew who’s excellent–top of his class, bright future. He’s thirty–eight, a bit older, but older men treat their wives better, right?”

Donald stayed silent. “What’s his family background?”
